Loro Munu
Loro Munu refers to the western part of East Timor. In the past, the name was used for the western part of the island of Timor, as "Loro Munu" means setting sun or simply west. Background The inhabitants of Loro Munu are called Kaladi regardless of their other ethnic affiliation. In contrast, the eastern part of the country is called Loro Sae and its inhabitants Firaku. As a melting pot of the country's various ethnicities and groups, the state capital Dili is the scene of regular street fights between gangs from the east and west. The name Kaladi for the western East Timorese is probably derived from the Portuguese calado (quiet, silent). Governor Luís Augusto de Almeida Macedo reports in his diary how Chinese traders sold forbidden goods, possibly weapons, to the ''Callady'' in the mountains. Loro Sae
Loro Sae is the name of the eastern part of Timor-Leste. This leads to confusion, as the official name of the country in the official language Tetum language, Tetum is "''Timór Loro Sa'e"''. Loro Sae means rising sun or simply east. The inhabitants of Loro Sae are called Firaku, regardless of their other ethnic affiliations. In contrast, the western part of the country is called Loro Munu and its inhabitants Kaladi. The country's capital, Dili, is a melting pot of the country's different ethnic groups and is the scene of regular street fights between . The name ''Firaku'' probably derives from the Portuguese "''vira o cu''" (to turn someone's back), which probably refers to the Eastern Timorese's alleged tendency to rebel and their supposed stubbornness and temperament. Municipalities Of Timor-Leste
Timor-Leste is divided into 14 municipalities (, ), which are former districts. One municipality is also a Special Administrative Region (SAR). The municipalities are divided into administrative posts (former subdistricts), and further subdivided into sucos (villages). Atauro Island was initially a part of Dili Municipality, but became a separate municipality on 1 January 2022. The borders between Cova Lima and Ainaro and between Baucau and Viqueque were changed in 2003. The municipalities in Timor-Leste are largely inherited from the earlier regencies of the Indonesian province, all of which were created on 30 July 1976 during the New Order. Administrative Posts Of Timor-Leste
The municipalities of Timor-Leste are divided into 65 administrative posts (previously ''subdistricts'' until 2014). Each administrative post is divided into several ''sucos''. Sucos are divided into several ''aldeias'', the smallest political division of East Timor.
