Sub-culture (song)
"Sub-culture" is the tenth single by English rock band New Order. It was released as the second and final single from their third studio album, '' Low-Life'' (1985) on 28 October 1985 by Factory Records. Release The single release, remixed by John Robie, is a drastic departure from the album version of the track. Robie's 12" and 7" single mixes feature more club-oriented, electronic instrumentation and prominent soulful female backing vocals. The B-side is an instrumental remix titled "Dub-vulture". An alternate seven-inch edit of the Robie remix taken from the Benelux version of the "Sub-culture" single appears on the group's 1987 compilation, '' Substance''. This version also appears on the US 12" alongside the longer mixes. New Order (band)
New Order are an English Rock music, rock band formed in Salford in 1980 by vocalist and guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris (musician), Stephen Morris. John Robie
John Robie is an American musician, producer and songwriter. He has produced and/or written for such artists as: Chaka Khan, New Order, UB40, Cabaret Voltaire, Soulsonic Force, Boy George, Planet Patrol, Laura Branigan, and Freeez, among others. Career Robie launched his career as the co-writer and synthesizer "wizard" on '' Planet Rock'' by Soulsonic Force. Robie subsequently went on to produce other hits for Soulsonic Force; Looking for the Perfect Beat and Renegades of Funk (later covered by Rage Against The Machine), and continued to pursue an experimental approach towards electronic music, which resulted in his help pioneering a completely new musical genre, '' Electro''. Hipsway
Hipsway are a Scottish pop/ new wave band. History and description The band was formed in Glasgow in 1984 by ex-Altered Images guitarist Johnny McElhone on bass, and featuring Grahame Skinner (vocals), Pim Jones (guitar) and Harry Travers (drums). Skinner and Travers had been members of the band Kites with Paul McGrath and Ian McGreevy before Hipsway formed. Their music was characterized by Skinner's deep vocals and Jones' rhythmic guitar style. They were quickly signed up by Mercury Records and by 1985 had released their first, eponymously titled album. The album was a moderate success on the UK Albums Chart; while the single " The Honeythief", made number 17 on the UK Singles Chart, and also reached the top 20 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. Peter Saville (artist)
Peter Andrew Saville (born 9 October 1955) is an English art director and graphic designer. He designed many record sleeves for Factory Records, which he co-founded in 1978 alongside Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus. Early life Peter Saville was born in Manchester, Lancashire, and attended St Ambrose College. He studied graphic design at Manchester Polytechnic from 1975 to 1978. Saville became involved in the music scene after meeting Tony Wilson, the journalist and broadcaster. The meeting resulted in Wilson commissioning the first Factory poster ( FAC 1). Saville was a partner in Factory Records along with Wilson, Martin Hannett, Rob Gretton and Alan Erasmus. Romeo Void
Romeo Void was an American new wave and post-punk band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. The band primarily consisted of saxophonist Benjamin Bossi, vocalist Debora Iyall, guitarist Peter Woods, and bassist Frank Zincavage. The band went through four drummers, starting with Jay Derrah and ending with Aaron Smith. The band released three albums, '' It's a Condition'', '' Benefactor'' and '' Instincts'', along with one EP. They are best known for the songs " Never Say Never" and " A Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)"; the latter became a top 40 pop single. The band was started at the San Francisco Art Institute by Iyall and Zincavage.
