Suave is a brand name based in Chicago, Illinois, used by the Unilever company in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Canada. Targeting discount stores, the brand represents more than 100 products including shampoo, lotions, soaps and deodorant. On May 9, 2023, the brand's North American rights were acquired by Yellow Wood Partners LLC and became controlled through a new entity, Suave Brands Company (SBC). Unilever still holds rights to the brand internationally. History Suave is a company that was started by National Mineral Company in the United States in 1937 as a hair tonic. The brand was later acquired by Helene Curtis Industries, Inc. which, in the 1970s, started expanding the Suave name beyond hair care into other areas. Waymond Anderson, better known by his stage name Suave, stylized as Suave' (born February 22, 1966), is a former American R&B singer, who hit the American top 40 charts with a cover of The Temptations' " My Girl" in 1988. Discovery and success Anderson was discovered at a New Edition concert in California in the mid-1980s, when one of the members invited him to sing on stage with them. After his initial nervousness on stage, he decided this was the career route he wanted to take. A few years later, in 1988, Suave released his first single, "My Girl," as well as an album, ''I'm Your Playmate''. The single rose to #20 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and #22 on the Radio & Records Pop Chart. Later in the year, he released a single called "Shake Your Body," which climbed to #22 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. "Suave" () is a song by Mexican singer Luis Miguel from his ninth studio album, ''Aries'' (1993). The song was composed by Kiko Cibrian and Orlando Castro with the former handling its production along with the artist. It is a dance number in which the singer describes a woman who bewitches him and becomes the woman of his dreams. The song received positive reactions from two music critics. It was acknowledged as an award-winning song at the 1995 Broadcast Music Inc. (BMI) Latin Awards. Commercially, the song reached number nine on the ''Billboard'' Hot Latin Songs chart in the United States. "Suave (Kiss Me)" is a song by American singer Nayer featuring Swedish-Congolese singer-songwriter Mohombi and American rapper Pitbull. It was released on August 2, 2011 by Mr. 305 and 2101 Records (Universal Music). Produced by RedOne and Jimmy Joker, the song interpolates elements from the 1998 Elvis Crespo song " Suavemente". Emanuel Herrera Batista (born 18 December 1990), known by his stage name El Alfa or El Alfa El Jefe, is a Dominican rapper, known as the King of Dembow. Batista was born in Bajos de Haina, San Cristobal. He is known for his initial afro hairstyle which led him to popularity in the early 2010s through songs like "Tarzan", "Coche Bomba" and "Muevete Jevi". Big Time Rush is an American pop music boy band formed in 2009. The group is composed of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Carlos PenaVega. Carlos Ariel Peralta Mendoza, known by his stage name Maffio (born 1986), is a Dominican producer, composer, songwriter and artist. Biography Mendoza was born in 1986 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. His musical endeavors began at the age of six when he began teaching himself to play the piano. David Luis "Suave" Gonzalez is an artist and activist who was sentenced to life without parole at age 17. He was released from prison in 2017 but given a sentence of lifetime parole, after a Supreme Court ruling that banned life sentences for juveniles.
