Su Hart
Su Hart (born 3 September 1959) is a British choir leader, singer-songwriter and composer, based in Bath, Somerset, Bath, UK, and vocalist of the band Baka Beyond. Baka Beyond was formed in 1992, when she and her partner, Martin Cradick travelled to south-east Cameroon to live with the Baka (tribe), Baka tribe in the rainforest and record their music. Hart founded the Walcot State Choir in Bath, and helped run the Shakti Sings Choir at the Glastonbury Festival in 2013. The Baka Hart is originally from Gateshead, and is a musician, choir leader, singer-songwriter and composer. In 1992, Hart and her partner Martin Cradick (formerly of the group Outback (group), Outback) travelled to south-east Cameroon to live with the Baka tribe (hunter-gatherer Pygmies) in the rainforest and record their music. Baka (tribe)
The Baka people, known in the Congo as Bayaka (''Bebayaka, Bebayaga, Bibaya''), are an ethnic group inhabiting the southeastern rain forests of Cameroon, northern Republic of the Congo, northern Gabon, and southwestern Central African Republic. They are sometimes called a subgroup of the Twa, but the two peoples are not closely related. Likewise, the name "Baka" is sometimes mistakenly applied to other peoples of the area who, like the Baka and Twa, have been historically called pygmies, a term that is now considered derogatory. Identity Baka people are all hunter-gatherers, formerly referred to as pygmies, located in the Central African rain forest.
