Styria Municipal Structural Reform
The Styria municipal structural reform (German: ''Steiermärkische Gemeindestrukturreform'') was a local government reform in the Austrian state of Styria, which was made effective January 1, 2015. The reform nearly halved the number of Styrian municipalities from 542 to 287. The reform was intended to reduce costs and ease election of new town officials. The terms of the reform is formalized in the Styrian Municipality Structural Reform Act. (StGsrG). The law was adopted on December 17, 2013 by the , and promulgated on April 2, 2014. Background As a result of the reform, the number of municipalities in Styria was reduced from 542 to 287 municipalities, a decrease of 255. Aflenz is since January 2015 a new market town with 2,421 residents (as of 1 January 2016) in Bruck-Mürzzuschlag District of Styria, Austria. The municipality was founded as part of the Styria municipal structural reform, on 31 December 2014, from the dissolved independent municipalities Aflenz Kurort and Aflenz Land. Lobmingtal is a municipality with 1,825 residents (as of 1 January 2016) in the Murtal District and Judenburg judicial district of Styria, Austria. The municipality has an area of . As part of the Styria municipal structural reform, in 2015, the towns of Großlobming and Kleinlobming were merged, and initially called "''Großlobming''". After a council decision, the municipality since 2016 has held the name "Lobmingtal". Geography The main section, Großlobming lies at a height of about south of the town center of Knittelfeld am Murboden, at the entrance of Lobmingbachtal valley. Leutschach an der Weinstraße (; ) is since January 2015 a new municipality with 3,794 residents (as of 1 January 2016) in the Leibnitz District of Styria, Austria. The municipality was founded as part of the Styria municipal structural reform, on 31 December 2014, from the dissolved independent municipalities Leutschach, Schloßberg, Eichberg-Trautenburg and Glanz an der Weinstraße. On January 1, 2015, the administration of the new market town, Leutschach an der Weinstraße, moved into the renovated office building, in which all municipal council offices are housed. Since 2015 Gratwein-Straßengel () is a market town in the Graz-Umgebung District of Styria, Austria. The town took effect as part of the Steiermärkische Gemeindestrukturreform, Styria municipal structural reform, from the end of 2014 with the merging of the former municipalities Gratwein, Judendorf-Straßengel, Eisbach (Steiermark), Eisbach and Gschnaidt. The merger made the market town population to be the 6th-largest in Styria. A petition by the mayor of Eisbach, to the constitutional court, against the merger was not successful.
