Stuff is a New Zealand news media website owned by newspaper conglomerate Stuff Ltd (formerly called Fairfax). As of early 2024, it is the most popular news website in New Zealand, with a monthly unique audience of more than 2 million. Stuff was founded in 2000, and publishes breaking news, weather, sport, politics, video, entertainment, business and life and style content from Stuff Ltd's newspapers, which include New Zealand's second- and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, ''The Post'' and ''The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, ''Sunday Star-Times'', as well as international news wire services. Stuff Ltd (previously Fairfax New Zealand) is a privately held news media company operating in New Zealand. It operates Stuff, the country's largest news website, and owns nine daily newspapers, including New Zealand's second and third-highest circulation daily newspapers, '' The Dominion Post'' and ''The Press'', and the highest circulation weekly, '' Sunday Star-Times''. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by a government-appointed board. The ABC is a publicly-owned body that is politically independent and fully accountable, with its charter enshrined in legislation, the ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983''. ABC Commercial, a profit-making division of the corporation, also helps to generate funding for content provision. Paul Thompson (media Executive)
Paul Thompson is a New Zealand media executive. Thompson joined '' The Press'' in Christchurch in 1995 as a journalist. He was the editor of ''The Press'' from 2001 to 2007. After news of the September 11 attacks became known, Thompson made the call to stop the printing of the newspaper (after most copies had been printed) for the event to be added to the front page. At 2am, Thompson and the newspaper's manager decided to publish an afternoon paper dedicated to the event; the first time this happened in the newspaper's history. In November 2007, Thompson became the executive editor for Fairfax Media, the parent organisation of ''The Press''. Clayton Weatherston
On 9 January 2008, 22-year-old Sophie Kate Elliott (born 11 June 1985) was stabbed to death by ex-boyfriend Clayton Robert Weatherston (born 9 January 1976), in Dunedin, New Zealand. The crime and trial were covered extensively in the news media, and contributed to the government abolishing the partial defence of provocation in cases of murder. Murder Elliott and Weatherston had a romantic relationship which lasted around six months and ended before her death. In court, witnesses described the relationship as troubled. Weatherston had been an economics tutor at the University of Otago, and also taught Elliott, who completed an honours degree in economics. On the day she died, she was packing to relocate to Wellington the next day, and start a job at the New Zealand Treasury. The New Zealand Newspaper Publishers’ Association awards are annual New Zealand media awards recognising excellence in the news print media. The first awards were held in 1974 giving out awards for news photography and have expanded to include many disciplines of journalism. The awards were rebranded the Voyager Media Awards in 2018, and were previously branded the Canon Media Awards and the Qantas Media Awards. ''Newsroom'' is a New Zealand-based online news publication. It focuses on New Zealand politics, current affairs and social issues. The site is currently co-edited by Tim Murphy and Mark Jennings. History Launch The site launched on 13 March 2017 with a promise to cover "the things that matter" and the hope of being a "New Zealand version of ''The Guardian''". The ''Waikato Times'' is a daily newspaper published in Hamilton, New Zealand and owned by media business Stuff Ltd. It has a circulation to the greater Waikato region and became a tabloid paper in 2018. Sinead Boucher
Sinead Marie Boucher (née O'Hanlon; born 26 June 1970) is a New Zealand journalist and chief executive of Stuff Ltd. On 31 May 2020 she became the owner of Stuff Ltd. Early life and family Born in 1970 to Sean and Mary O'Hanlon, Boucher moved with her family from Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Christchurch, New Zealand, when she was about three years old. She was educated at Villa Maria College. After beginning to study law at the University of Canterbury, she dropped out and worked at McDonald's, before returning to Ireland for a time. In 1992, she returned to New Zealand and completed a six-month journalism course at Aoraki Polytechnic in Timaru, where she met her future husband, Mark Boucher. Nine Entertainment (registered as Nine Entertainment Co. Pty Ltd) is an Australian publicly listed media company with holdings in radio and television broadcasting, newspaper publications and digital media.
