Student Radio Awards
The Student Radio Association (SRA) is a representative body which supports and acts on behalf of the UK student radio community, comprising radio stations that are associated with or linked to a place of education. It is a not-for-profit organisation, which exists to encourage and facilitate communication between student stations. It was dissolved by Companies House in May 2018, but was reincorporated on 30 August 2019 as the Student Radio Association Ltd Ltd. History The SRA was formed following the liquidation of the National Association of Student Broadcasting (NASB), which was formed as a limited company on 5 August 1988. NASB, a Private company limited by guarantee, was dissolved in January 2002, although had collapsed as a business in 1991. That year saw the creation of the SRA as a community. Private Company Limited By Guarantee
A company limited by guarantee (CLG) is a type of company where the liability of members in the event the company is wound up is limited to a (typically very small) amount listed in the company's articles or constitution. Most have no share capital, although rare exceptions exist. The form originated in the United Kingdom, and now exists under the company law of the Australia, Bermuda, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Gambia, and Ireland, and in the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Nova Scotia. It previously existed in New Zealand. It is used primarily but not exclusively by non-profit organisations (including charities) that require legal personality. Devin Joseph Jordan Griffin (born 23 December 1984) is a British radio presenter, DJ and actor, who is most commonly known for presenting Heart's evening show since January 2022 and Heart's Feel Good Weekend since January 2021. He is also known for his former weekend afternoon shows on BBC Radio 1. Aled Haydn Jones
Aled Haydn Jones (born 9 August 1976) is a Welsh radio executive, former presenter and former radio producer. In June 2020, he was appointed head of BBC Radio 1, succeeding Ben Cooper. From 2004 until 2012, he worked on ''The Chris Moyles Show''. He was a presenter on '' The Surgery'' on BBC Radio 1 between 2009 and 2015. Absolute Radio
Absolute Radio is a British digital radio station owned and operated by Bauer Media Audio UK as part of the Absolute Radio Network. It broadcasts nationally across the UK via digital audio broadcasting. The station focuses on alternative and indie music. History 1993–1997: Virgin Radio launch and early years The Broadcasting Act 1990 allowed for the launch of independent national radio (INR) stations in the United Kingdom. Mark Crossley (born 22 April 1987) is an English Radio DJ, best known for hosting the evening show on national UK station Absolute Radio. BBC Academy
The BBC Academy is an educational arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation which trains current and prospective broadcasting employees in the skills of the Broadcasting industry, in addition to training the corporation's own staff and prospects. A subsidiary of the academy, the BBC College of Journalism, functions as a free e-learning, online course series for all licence-fee payers. History Its origins lie in a post-Hutton inquiry report commissioned by former BBC editor Ron Neil and Pricewaterhouse Coopers in 2004 which recommended a number of broad reforms of the BBC which included the establishment of a journalistic academy headed by an academic principal. Radio Warwick
RAW 1251AM is the student radio station at the University of Warwick and winner of the 2000 and 2003 BBC Radio 1 Student Radio Association Best Station awards. Formerly known as W963, during the years when broadcasts were conducted via an induction loop around the university campus on 963 kHz AM, later broadcasting on 1251 kHz AM to the campus from 1999 to 2024. RAW now broadcasts from inside the Students' Union HQ building anstreamsall its output online. History RAW began life as University Radio Warwick in the 1970-71 academic year by students who spent their summer vacation installing an induction loop transmission system in the Rootes residence buildings. Spark (formerly 107 Spark FM and Spark FM) is a community radio station serving 15- to 30-year-olds in the Sunderland area. Spark carries a variety of content catering for both mainstream and niche musical audiences, specialising in chart hits and new music throughout the day, and specialist programming after 7 p.m. The radio station broadcasts on 107.0FM and online via the station's website. Fuse FM
Fuse FM is a student radio station broadcasting every day during term time from Manchester Students' Union at the University of Manchester. Fuse FM is run entirely by volunteers studying at the university, led by an elected Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager. In addition to broadcasting online, Fuse FM provide a platform for local DJs and bands. The station is a member of The Student Radio Association. Currently, the station managers are Rhianna Patel and Keira Strauss. History The Student Union Executive accepted a proposal to create the station in July 2000 and work began on creating a base for the station, which was originally called Mint FM. The name was changed to Fuse FM in October 2000. Space in the Union basement was converted into a fully functioning broadcast studio and production suite. Zoë Ball
Zoe Louise Ball (born 23 November 1970) is a British broadcaster and presenter. She was the first female host of the Radio 1 and Radio 2 breakfast shows for the BBC, and in 2024 was confirmed as the second-highest paid BBC presenter after Gary Lineker.
