Strömma Canal
The Strömma Canal () is a short canal located near Strömma, on Värmdö (island), Värmdö island, Stockholm County, part of Värmdö Municipality in Sweden. Situation This short canal runs parallel to the Svanvägen Road and forms a relatively narrow and shallow connection across Värmdö Island, joining two fjords together, thereby allowing a short cut and safer route from Stockholm and other places to the outer Stockholm archipelago islands such as Sandhamn and Runmarö. A lifting canal road overbridge allows for the passage of larger powered boats and yachts across the Stavnäsvägen Road. Värmdö itself is an island in the inner Stockholm archipelago, and is the largest island in the archipelago. Current status The canal is in regular use and is utilised by the many private pleasure boats and such vessels as the MV ''Strömma Kanal'', a sizeable tourist boat that runs seasonally from Stockholm to the island of Sandhamn. Canal
Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). Sandhamn
Sandhamn (Swedish language, Swedish for "Sand Harbour") is a small settlement in the central-peripheral part of the Stockholm Archipelago at the 59th parallel northnord59.se in central-eastern Sweden. approximately 50 km (30 mi) east of Stockholm. The Stockholm Archipelago () is the largest archipelago in Sweden, and the second-largest archipelago in the Baltic Sea (the largest being the Archipelago Sea across the Baltic in Finland). Värmdö is an island in the innermost region of the Stockholm archipelago and covers an area of 181.40 km2, making it the largest island in the archipelago. Värmdö is after Gotland and Öland the third largest island on the eastern coast of Sweden. Värmdö lies in Stockholm County. Uppland
Uppland is a historical province or ' on the eastern coast of Sweden, just north of Stockholm, the capital. It borders Södermanland, Västmanland and Gästrikland. The 25 provinces of Sweden () are historical, geographical and cultural regions. They have no administrative function, but retain their own cultural identities, dialects and folklore. Several were administrative subdivisions until 1634, when they were replaced by the counties of Sweden (). Some were conquered later on from Denmark–Norway. Others, like the provinces of Finland, have been lost. In some cases, the county and province borders correspond almost exactly, as with Blekinge and Blekinge County.
