''Struggler'' is the second studio album by Australian musician Genesis Owusu, released on 18 August 2023 through Ourness. The album was supported with a world tour, across North America, Europe and Australia between October and December 2023. At the 2023 ARIA Music Awards, the album won Album of the Year, Best Independent Release and Best Hip Hop/Rap Release and was nominated for Best Produced Release, Best Engineered Release and Best Solo Artist. At the 2023 J Awards, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year. The album was nominated for the 2023 Australian Music Prize. At the AIR Awards of 2024, the album was nominated for Independent Album of the Year and Best Independent Hip Hop Album or EP, while the album was nominated for Independent Publicity Team of the Year and Independent Marketing Team of the Year. Genesis Owusu
Kofi Owusu-Ansah (born 1998), known by his stage name Genesis Owusu, is a Ghanaian-Australian rapper and singer from Canberra. He is the younger brother of fellow hip hop rapper, Kojo Owusu-Ansah Citizen Kay. Owusu's debut studio album, '' Smiling with No Teeth'' (March 2021), reached the ARIA Albums Chart top 30. At the 2021 ARIA Music Awards he won four trophies for Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Independent Release and Best Cover Art (latter shared with Bailey Howard). Early life and education Genesis Owusu was born Kofi Owusu-Ansah in 1998 in Koforidua, Ghana. His older brother, Kojo (born ca. 1994), is also a rapper who performs as Citizen Kay. The family migrated to Canberra, Australia in 2000. 2023 ARIA Music Awards
The 2023 ARIA Music Awards are the 37th Annual Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards (generally known as ARIA Music Awards or simply The ARIAs) and consist of a series of awards, including the 2023 ARIA Awards, ARIA Artisan Awards, ARIA Fine Arts Awards and ARIA Hall of Fame. The ARIA Awards ceremony occurred on 15 November 2023, broadcast on Nine Network and live-streamed via YouTube and Stan from Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, Gadigal. Andrew Klippel
Andrew Klippel is an Australian producer and songwriter who is co-founder of independent management, recording, and publishing label Ourness. Through Ourness, he has managed Genesis Owusu and pop duo Royel Otis. Early life Andrew Klippel is the son of sculptor and teacher, Robert Klippel. He spent some years in the UK, before returning to Australia. By the late 1980s, Klippel began playing live with his own small bands around Sydney, including ''Andrew Klippel and Electric Soul''. In the early 1990s, he formed a songwriting/production company called ''ESP'' with Melbourne DJ Ean Sugarman. Career In 1991, Klippel co-founded Australian dance-pop trio Euphoria with Holly Garnett and Keren Minshull and in October 1991, they released their debut single " Love You Right" which peaked at number 1 on the ARIA Charts. Australian Music Prize
The Australian Music Prize (often shortened to the AMP) is an annual award of $50,000 ($30,000 from 2005 to 2023) given to an Australian band or solo artist in recognition of the merit of an album released during the year of award. The ARIA Award for Best Solo Artist, is an award first presented at the 2021 ARIA Music Awards as ARIA Award for Best Artist. It is handed out by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), an organisation whose aim is "to advance the interests of the Australian record industry." In 2021, the previous categories of ARIA Award for Best Male Artist, Best Male Artist and ARIA Award for Best Female Artist, Best Female Artist were combined to ensure that the ARIA Awards reflect and embrace equality and the true diversity of the music industry.
