Ross Stripling
Thomas Ross Stripling (born November 23, 1989) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, and Oakland Athletics. Stripling played college baseball at Texas A&M University before the Dodgers selected him in the fifth round of the 2012 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers in 2016, and was an All-Star in 2018. Amateur career Stripling played high school baseball at Carroll High School in Southlake, Texas. In baseball, he did not pitch until a broken leg prior to his senior season in 2008 left him unable to play in the infield, and as a pitcher he was 14–0 with a 1.60 ERA, as in 107 innings he led the Dallas/Fort Worth area with 156 strikeouts. Byron Stripling is a jazz trumpeter who has been a member of the Count Basie Orchestra. Career He was born Lloyd Byron Stripling on August 20, 1961, in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, and the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. Following his studies, he was featured as lead trumpeter and soloist with the Count Basie Orchestra, under the direction of Thad Jones and Frank Foster. He toured and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Herman, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Louis Bellson, Buck Clayton, Gerry Mulligan, J.J. With Blood Comes Cleansing is an American Christian deathcore band from Albany, Georgia, United States. History With Blood Comes Cleansing started in February 2005. After touring, several member changes, and releasing a six-song EP, ''With Blood Comes Cleansing'' signed on with Virginia-based Blood & Ink Records in February 2006. That summer they released their first full-length album, ''Golgotha''. Since then, the band has been touring, and recently moved to a bigger record label, Victory Records, in February 2007. They released their second album, '' Horror'', in January 2008, through Victory Records. On 10 July 2008, With Blood Comes Cleansing decided to stop touring full-time and focus on their personal endeavors. Kathryn Stripling Byer
Kathryn Stripling Byer (November 25, 1944 – June 5, 2017), also called Kay Byer, was an American poet and teacher. She was named by Governor Mike Easley as the fifth North Carolina Poet Laureate from 2005 to 2009. She was the first woman to hold the position. Biography Early life and education Kathryn Stripling was born in Camilla, Georgia in 1944. Her parents were C.M. Stripling, a farmer, and his wife, Bernice (née Campbell) Stripling. She went on to graduate with a bachelors in English from Macon, Georgia's Wesleyan College and then received her M.F.A. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she studied under Allen Tate, Fred Chappell, and Robert W. Watson. During this time at UNC-G, Byer decided to move to the mountains of North Carolina. ''October Sky'' is a 1999 American biographical drama film directed by Joe Johnston, and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Chris Cooper, Chris Owen, and Laura Dern. The screenplay by Lewis Colick, based on the book of the same name, tells the story of Homer H. Hickam Jr., a coal miner's son who was inspired by the launch of ''Sputnik 1'' in 1957 to take up rocketry against his father's wishes and eventually became a NASA engineer. ''October Sky'' is based on the lives of four young men who grew up in Coalwood, West Virginia. Sidney Stripling
Sidney Stripling was an African American old-time and blues musician from Kathleen, Georgia. He is believed to have been born in the 19th century, and died some time between 1941 and 1945. At the request of Alan Lomax, in charge of the Archive of American Folk Song at the Library of Congress, John Wesley Work III of Fisk University recorded ten of Stripling's songs at the Fort Valley State College Folk Festival in Fort Valley, Georgia in March 1941. These are the only known recordings of the artist, and include ballads, spirituals, blues, dance tunes and children's songs. Stripling sings and plays what may be a four-string banjo in a style typical of the period around 1900. Stripling Brothers
The Stripling Brothers were an American old-time country music duo, comprising fiddler Charlie Melvin Stripling (August 8, 1896–January 19, 1966) and his guitar-playing brother Ira Lee Stripling (June 5, 1898–March 11, 1967). They recorded in the late 1920s and 1930s. Charlie Stripling is regarded as "one of the most important American old-time fiddlers." Biography The brothers were born in Pickens County, Alabama, among eight children of Thomas Newton Stripling and Sarah E. Robertson. Charlie acquired a fiddle in his teens, and learned tunes from a neighbor, "Plez" Carroll. His younger brother Ira bought a guitar to accompany him, and together the duo began to win local small-town fiddling competitions. Charlie Stripling married in 1919, settling in the town of Kennedy, and as a tenant farmer welcomed the cash income from winning competitions.
