Strictly Come Dancing (series 1)
''Strictly Come Dancing'' aired its first series on BBC One from 15 May 2004 to 3 July 2004. The series was presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly. The judging panel consisted of Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood, and Bruno Tonioli. On 3 July 2004, journalist Natasha Kaplinsky and Brendan Cole were announced as the winners, while ''EastEnders'' actor Christopher Parker and Hanna Karttunen finished in second place. Format The couples dance each week in a live show. The judges score each performance out of ten. The couples are then ranked according to the judges' scores and given points according to their rank, with the lowest scored couple receiving one point, and the highest scored couple receiving the most points (the maximum number of points available depends on the number of couples remaining in the competition). Natasha Kaplinsky
Natasha Margaret Kaplinsky (born 9 September 1972)The Donor, News and information for blood donors, Winter 2009, National Blood Service, England, page 55 is an English newsreader, TV presenter and journalist, best known for her roles as a studio anchor on Sky News, BBC News, Channel 5 and ITV News. As of September 2022, she is the president of the British Board of Film Classification. David Dickinson
David Dickinson (born David Gulesserian; 16 August 1941) is an English antiques dealer and television presenter. Between 2000 and 2004, Dickinson hosted the BBC One antiques show '' Bargain Hunt'', where he was succeeded by Tim Wonnacott. Dickinson left the BBC in 2005, and between 2006 and 2024, he hosted the ITV daytime show '' Dickinson's Real Deal''. The show saw members of the public bringing antiques and collectables to sell to a dealer or take to the auction. He is also known as the Duke. Cha-cha-cha (dance)
The cha-cha-cha (also called cha-cha) is a dance of Cuban origin. It is danced to cha-cha-cha music introduced by the Cuban composer and violinist Enrique Jorrin in the early 1950s. This rhythm was developed from the danzón-mambo. The name of the dance is an onomatopoeia derived from the shuffling sound of the dancers' feet when they dance two consecutive quick steps that characterize the dance. In the early 1950s, Enrique Jorrín worked as a violinist and composer with the charanga group Orquesta América. The group performed at dance halls in Havana where they played danzón, danzonete, and danzon-mambo for dance-oriented crowds. Jorrín noticed that many of the dancers at these gigs had difficulty with the syncopated rhythms of the danzón-mambo. To make his music more appealing to dancers, Jorrín began composing songs where the melody was marked strongly on the first downbeat and the rhythm was less syncopated. Lesley Garrett
Lesley Garrett, CBE (born 10 April 1955) is an English soprano singer, musician, broadcaster and media personality who is noted for being at home in opera and "crossover music". Early life Garrett was born in the town of Thorne, near Doncaster (then in the West Riding of Yorkshire), into a musical family. She attended Thorne Fieldside Infant and Junior Schools and Thorne Grammar School. As she grew up she inherited her family's love of music. Erin Boag
Erin Boag (born 17 March 1975) is a professional ballroom dancer. She has danced from the age of three, originally starting ballet and later moving into ballroom, Latin and jazz. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, she moved to Australia as a teenager to progress her dancing career, before moving to London in 1996. She started professionally dancing and is well known for being on ''Strictly Come Dancing'' in the UK with her partner Anton Du Beke. Boag is an honorary patron of the theatre charity The Music Hall Guild of Great Britain and America. Professional career Boag's regular professional partner is Anton du Beke. The England national rugby league team represents England in international rugby league since the first international match in 1904. Martin Offiah
Martin Nwokocha Offiah MBE ( (''original pronunciation''), (''commonly used'')); born 29 December 1965) is an English former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who played in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Offiah was inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame in 2013. He scored over 500 tries during his rugby league career, making him the third-highest try scorer (and top try-scoring English player) of all time, and now features in a statue of great rugby league players outside Wembley Stadium. Holby City
''Holby City'' (stylised on-screen as HOLBY CIY) is a British medical drama television series that aired weekly on BBC One. It was created by Tony McHale and Mal Young as a Spin-off (media), spin-off from the established BBC medical drama ''Casualty (TV series), Casualty'', and premiered on 12 January 1999; the show ran until 29 March 2022.
