Streetball
Streetball (or street basketball) is a variation of basketball, typically played on outdoor courts and featuring significantly less formal structure and enforcement of the game's rules. As such, its format is more conducive to allowing players to publicly showcase their own individual skills. Streetball may also refer to other urban sports played on asphalt. It is particularly popular and important in New York City and Los Angeles, though its popularity has spread across the United States due to the game's adaptability. Some places and cities in the United States have organized streetball programs, operated similarly to midnight basketball programs. Many cities also host their own weekend-long streetball tournaments, with Hoop-It-Up and the Houston Rockets' Blacktop Battle being two of the most popular. AND1 Mixtape Tour
The AND1 Live Tour, formerly known as the AND1 Mixtape Tour, was a traveling basketball competition and exhibition that existed from 1998 to 2008. It was presented by ''B-Ball and Company'' and the basketball apparel manufacturer AND1. A group of streetball players, along with Emcee Rell and B-Ball and Company CEO Linda Hill, travelled from town to town and challenge teams composed of local talent. Games tended to be characterized by isolation one-on-one ball handling moves and acrobatic slam dunks and alley-oops. The tour was televised in half-hour "Streetball" segments on ESPN2, and were compiled into highlight reels, offered under the mark AND1 Mixtape, which were sold on DVD. AND1 has released 10 volumes. Rafer Alston
Rafer Jamel Alston (born July 24, 1976), nicknamed "Skip 2 My Lou" after the American folk song and partner-stealing dance with the same name, is an American retired professional basketball player. Alston first gained basketball fame as a streetball player before joining the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Milwaukee Bucks. While in the NBA from 1999 to 2010, he played for six teams, including the 2008–09 Orlando Magic team that made the NBA Finals. Streetball legend Alston grew up in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York City, and was a standout streetball basketball player, known for his untraditional ballhandling moves that made him adept at outmaneuvering defenders. Ball4Real
Ball4Real was the name of a traveling basketball exhibition and competition which made its debut in June 2007. A group of well-known streetball players traveled from city to city to challenge teams composed of local talent. Games tended to be characterized by complicated dribbling, ballhandling, and passing, acrobatic slam dunks, and a looser interpretation of rules. Origin and players Ball4Real was created by former members of the AND1 streetball team as well as Lisa Fusco, the former general manager of the AND1 Mixtape Tour and present Ball4Real CEO. The players and Fusco were all part owners of the tour. The 2007 team consisted of the players who defected from AND1 along with some new players. The group toured through 2007 in arenas, but attendance was low, and the group disbanded in February 2008, with many of its players joining the Ball4LifeTour. Emmanuel Bibb (born February 25, 1973), also known as Hard Work, is an American streetball player from Detroit, Michigan. He is 6-foot 2-inches tall and plays shooting guard. In streetball, he is best known for his appearances on the AND1 Mixtape Tour, which airs on ESPN. In conventional basketball, Bibb currently plays for the Detroit Panthers of the ABA. Bibb played college basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy. Twenty-one (basketball)
Twenty-one, also called play21basketball, cutthroat, hustle, tip-it, noyceball, roughhouse, scutter, rough, or rebound is a popular variation of street basketball. The game is played with any number of players on a half court, but typically when not enough players are available to at least play three-on-three. Twenty-one is an individual game that does not utilize team play. Rules The rules and game play may vary regionally, locally, and even by specific court. Basic rules are as follows: Typically play begins with one player shooting the ball from a significant distance. This shot must hit the rim, but cannot go through the basket. Kenneth D. Brunner II (born December 8, 1978) is an American professional basketball coach and former player. Brunner played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas and the Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. Early life Bruner was born on December 8, 1978, in Los Angeles California. His father was an alcoholic and his mother was a drug addict so Bruner was raised primarily by his grandmother in Inglewood, California.
