This is a list of former Universal Studios Florida attractions. History Since Universal Studios Florida's opening on June 7, 1990, over 40 attractions have been retired, and usually replaced or re-themed into new attractions, 17 of them being original attractions. The first major attraction to be retired from the park was ''An American Tail Theatre'' in 1992, due to low attendance capacity. The show was replaced in the same year by Beetlejuice's Rock and Roll Graveyard Revue, and the Fievel's Playland attraction, also based on the film '' An American Tail'', opened in the park's Expo Center area simultaneously, and was part of Woody Woodpecker's KidZone. In 1996, the interactive show attraction ''Murder, She Wrote Mystery Theatre'' was closed due to the cancellation of the ''Murder, She Wrote'' television show on which it was based; also retired around the same time was the next door ''MCA Recording Studio'', also an interactive show. Universal Studios Florida
Universal Studios Florida (also known as Universal Studios or USF) is a theme park located in Orlando, Florida. Primarily themed to movies, television and other aspects of the entertainment industry, the park opened to the public on June 7, 1990. It is owned and operated by NBCUniversal and features numerous rides, attractions and live shows. Universal Studios Florida was the first component of the larger Universal Orlando Resort to open, ranking eleventh in the world and sixth in North America for attendance among amusement parks in 2019 while hosting approximately 10.9 million visitors. In addition to the theme park aspect, early design focused on providing guests with a behind-the-scenes look at film and television. A significant portion of the park operated as an active production studio. Norman Bates
Norman Bates is a fictional character created by American author Robert Bloch as the main antagonist in his 1959 thriller novel ''Psycho''. He has an alter, Mother, who takes from the form of his abusive mother, and later victim, Norma, who in his daily life runs the Bates Motel. He was portrayed by Anthony Perkins in the 1960 version of ''Psycho'' directed by Alfred Hitchcock and in the ''Psycho'' franchise. He was also portrayed by Vince Vaughn in the 1998 version of ''Psycho'', and by Freddie Highmore in the television series '' Bates Motel'' (2013–2017). Unlike the franchise produced by Universal Studios, Norman is not the principal antagonist in Bloch's subsequent novels and is succeeded by copycat killers who assume Norman's identity after his death in '' Psycho II'' (1982), although he does return in the licensed continuation novel ''Psycho: Sanitarium'' (2016) by Chet Williamson, and the comic book series ''Son of Psycho'' (2021). A Day In The Park With Barney
''A Day in the Park with Barney'' was a live children's show at Universal Studios Florida based on the children's television show, ''Barney & Friends'', that opened in 1995 on the former site of ''The Bates Motel Set'' used in '' Psycho IV: The Beginning''. It also had a "Barney's Backyard" playground area with a chance to meet Barney in a meet and greet session after the main show in the Barney Theater. It was one of the few places where Barney's original voice actor Bob West could still be heard and one of Universal Studios' attempts to appeal to the younger generation. Due to the ongoing worldwide outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and its spread to Florida, ''A Day in the Park with Barney'' was affected many times during the reopening of Universal Studios Florida. Curious George Goes To Town
Curious George Goes to Town is a children's aqua play and ball play area at Universal Studios Florida and formerly at Universal Studios Hollywood. The Florida attraction originally opened in 1998, on the former site of ''The Bates Mansion Set'' used in '' Psycho IV: The Beginning''. On November 1, 2022, Universal Studios Florida has announced that the area, alongside Fievel's Playland, DreamWorks Destination, Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Coaster, and Shrek and Donkey's Meet and Greet would close permanently on January 16, 2023, with its last day of operation scheduled for January 15, 2023. Islands Of Adventure
Universal's Islands of Adventure (also known as Islands of Adventure or IOA), originally called Universal Studios Islands of Adventure, is a theme park located in Orlando, Florida. It opened on May 28, 1999, along with CityWalk, as part of an expansion that converted Universal Studios Florida into the Universal Orlando Resort. The resort's slogan ''Vacation Like You Mean It'' was introduced in 2013. Islands of Adventure is modeled after a journey of exploration, where guests embark on an adventure to visit a variety of themed islands. Initially, the park featured six islands. A seventh, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, was added in 2010, themed to the highly successful ''Harry Potter'' franchise.
