Streamline Pictures
Streamline Pictures was an American media company. Founded by screenwriter Carl Macek and animation historian Jerry Beck, it was one of the earliest distributors of English-dubbed Japanese animation. History Founding Founded in Los Angeles, California, in late 1988, Streamline Pictures was one of the first North American companies that was created primarily with the intention of distributing translated anime uncut and faithful to the original content. The founders of Streamline were television writer and producer Carl Macek, who had worked for Harmony Gold USA on the series ''Robotech'', and film distributor Jerry Beck. At one point or another, Gregory Snegoff, Steve Kramer, Ardwight Chamberlain, Tom Wyner, and Mike Reynolds, all of whom served as series staff writers (and voice actors) on ''Robotech'', worked as independent writers and voice actors for Streamline. Harmony Gold USA, Inc. is an American film and television production company. It was founded in 1983 by Egyptian-born Frank Agrama and is managed by his daughter, Jehan F. Agrama. In 1976, Agrama sold broadcast rights from Paramount Pictures to the Mediaset media conglomerate. It is best known as the distributor of the '' Shaka Zulu'' miniseries and for various anime series, notably ''Robotech''. The company worked closely with Intersound, a Los Angeles–based post-production recording studio, managed by Frank's son, Ahmed Agrama. They were responsible for partially dubbing '' Dragon Ball'', '' Magical Princess Minky Momo'' and '' Dr. Slump'' before going out of business in 2006. The Biograph
The Biograph was a repertory movie theatre in the Georgetown (Washington, D.C.), DC neighborhood of Georgetown. Opened on September 30, 1967 in the shell of the Nash auto dealership, it closed in 1996. History Alan Rubin was one of its cofounders (other owners included Leonard Poryles and David Levy) and he stayed with it until the theatre lost its lease and became a CVS Pharmacy. One of his staff members was Allyn “AJ” Johnson who made a collage out of some of their movie posters. The collage was eventually placed on one of the walls. Johnson managed to salvage the mural. Akira (1988 Film)
is a 1988 Anime, Japanese animated cyberpunk film, cyberpunk action film directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, produced by Ryōhei Suzuki and Shunzō Katō, and written by Otomo and Izo Hashimoto, based on Otomo's 1982 manga ''Akira (manga), Akira''. Set in a dystopian 2019, it tells the story of Shōtarō Kaneda, the leader of a bōsōzoku, biker gang whose childhood friend, Tetsuo Shima, acquires incredible telekinesis, telekinetic abilities after a motorcycle accident, eventually threatening an entire military complex amid chaos and rebellion in the sprawling futuristic metropolis of Neo-Tokyo. While most of the character designs and settings were adapted from the manga, the plot differs considerably and does not include much of the last half of the manga, which continued publication for two years after the film's release.
