''Straw'' is a 2025 American psychological crime drama film written, produced and directed by Tyler Perry. The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, and Glynn Turman. ''Straw'' was released by Netflix on June 6, 2025. Plot Janiyah Wiltkinson is a single mother living in a run-down apartment with her frequently ill daughter, Aria. One morning, Aria expresses frustration over being unable to bathe herself, and tells Janiyah that their teacher told her class that her mother could not afford her lunch. Janiyah is upset but tries to focus on getting to work. On her way out, she gives change to a neighbor in a wheelchair, angering her landlord, who threatens eviction unless rent is paid by 10:00 a.m. After dropping Aria at school, Janiyah heads to her grocery store job. Tyler Perry
Tyler Perry (born Emmitt Perry Jr., September 13, 1969) is an American actor, filmmaker, and playwright. He is the creator and performer of Madea, Mabel "Madea" Simmons, a tough elderly woman, and also portrays her brother Joe Simmons and her nephew Brian Simmons. Perry's films vary in style from orthodox filmmaking techniques to filmed productions of live stage plays, many of which have been subsequently adapted into feature films. Madea's first appearance was in Perry's play ''I Can Do Bad All by Myself (play), I Can Do Bad All by Myself'' (1999) staged in Chicago.
