Stratford And Bow
Stratford and Bow is a constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested at the 2024 general election. It is currently represented in Parliament by Uma Kumaran of the Labour Party, who has served as MP since 2024. Constituency profile The population of Newham has grown significantly in the 21st century so its representation increased from two seats to three in the 2023 boundary review. This seat includes Stratford which has undergone extensive regeneration and hosted the 2012 Olympic Games. Bow and Old Ford to the west and Forest Gate to the east have mostly Victorian housing with some post-war housing estates. Old Ford
Old Ford is an area in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets that is named after the natural ford which provided a crossing of the River Lea. History Administration and boundaries Historically, Old Ford was a cluster of houses and a mill, around the ford. It formed a part of the Ancient Parish of Stepney. Together with the rest of Bow, it separated from Stepney to become a (late formed) Ancient Parish of Bow in 1719. Ancient Parishes were, until the 19th century responsible for both civil and ecclesiastical local administration, after that there were divergent civil and ecclesiastical parish areas. The 2023 review of Westminster constituencies was the most recent cycle of the process to redraw the Constituencies of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, constituency map for the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Fiona Lali (born 1998) is a British politician and campaign co-ordinator for the Revolutionary Communist Party (UK). She ran for office in the 2024 United Kingdom general election in the newly-created constituency of Stratford and Bow as an independent canditate, where she received 4.1% of the vote. Lali rose to notoriety in May 2024 when she debated Suella Braverman on GB News about British involvement in the Israel-Palestinian conflict, and facilitation of genocide in Gaza. Early life Lali was born in 1998 to a mother from a Catholic family in Northern Ireland, and a father who came to Britain from Uganda as a refugee. She spent several years growing up in Uganda and Ireland before moving to London aged 11. Bromley, commonly known as Bromley-by- Bow, is a district in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in East London, located on the western banks of the River Lea, in the Lower Lea Valley in East London. It is an inner-city suburb located 4.7 miles (7.5 km) east of Charing Cross. The area is distinct from Bow, which lies immediately north of the formal boundary between the two, which runs along Bow Road, or near the Lea, slightly to the south of the Road. The area has historically been known as both Bromley and Bromley-by-Bow. Green Street is a road in the London Borough of Newham, East London, which forms much of the boundary between East and West Ham. Green Street is best known for the former Boleyn Ground, home to West Ham United from 1904 to 2016, and for its wide range of shops and market outlets.
