Straight-eight Engines
The straight-eight engine or inline-eight engine (often abbreviated as I8) is an eight-cylinder internal combustion engine with all eight cylinder (engine), cylinders mounted in a straight line along the crankcase. The type has been produced in side-valve, IOE engine, IOE, overhead-valve, sleeve-valve, and overhead-cam configurations. A straight-eight can be timed for engine balance#Inherent mechanical balance, inherent primary and secondary balance, with no unbalanced primary or secondary forces or moments. However, crankshaft torsional vibration, present to some degree in all engines, is sufficient to require the use of a harmonic damper at the accessory end of the crankshaft. Without such damping, fatigue (material), fatigue cracking near the rear main bearing journal (mechanical device), journal may occur, leading to engine failure. Delage Engine
Delage is a French luxury automobile and racecar company founded in 1905 by Louis Delâge in Levallois-Perret near Paris; it was acquired by Delahaye in 1935 and ceased operation in 1953. On 7 November 2019, the association "Les Amis de Delage" created in 1956 and owner of the Delage brand, announced the re-founding of the company Delage Automobiles with the Delage D12. The Bi-Autogo was a prototype American cyclecar, built from 1908 to 1912. Designed and built by Detroit artist & engineer James Scripps Booth,Clymer, p.115. it had the usual two wheels (wooden-spoked, ), plus two pairs of smaller, retractable outrigger wheels in the three-seater body. Fitted with wheel steering, it had a 45 hp (33.5 kW) V8 engine (, ), the first of its kind from a Detroit company, with an external copper tube radiator, and a weight of . Just one was built. Mercedes () was a brand originally created by the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) and used for first time in the 35 hp model released by the company in 1901. DMG began to develop in 1900, after the death of its co-founder, Gottlieb Daimler. Although the name was not lodged as a trade name until 23 June 1902 and not registered legally until 26 September, the brand name eventually would be applied to an automobile model built by Wilhelm Maybach to specifications by Emil Jellinek. A connecting rod, also called a 'con rod', is the part of a reciprocating engine, piston engine which connects the piston to the crankshaft. Together with the crank (mechanism), crank, the connecting rod converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotation of the crankshaft.
