Bessie Callender
Bessie Callender (ca. 1889 – June 26, 1951) was an American sculptor most well known for her sculptures of wildlife in the style of the French ''animaliers''. Biography Bessie Stough was born near Wichita, Kansas around 1889 and spent most of her childhood on a farm, where her interest in animals originated. She moved to New York in the early 1920s after marrying ''The New York Times'' journalist Harold Callender. Here, she studied drawing under George Bridgman, at the Art Students League, and the Cooper Union. She also modeled from life. When she and her husband were transferred to Paris in 1926, she studied under Antoine Bourdelle, and later under the important animalier, Georges Hilbert. It was under Hilbert's supervision that she began the stone carvings of animals she received the most acclaim for. Carl Stough
Carl Stough (1926–2000) was an American choral conductor and breathing specialist and the founder of the now closed Carl Stough Institute of Breathing Coordination, a non-profit organization for the research of optimal breathing. Biography Carl Stough was a student of choral conducting at Westminster Choir College in New Jersey in the 1940s when he started to be fascinated with breathing. As a singer, he knew how important small and steady airflow was to the production of voice. He investigated the meaning of "breath support" that all singers are confronted with. Furman Charles "Bill" Stough (July 11, 1928 – February 2, 2004) was an American prelate who served as the eighth Episcopal Church Bishop of Alabama from 1971 till 1988. Early life and education Stough was born on July 11, 1928, in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of Furman Charles Stough and Martha Elizabeth Turnipseed. John Stough Bobbs (1809 – 1870) was an American surgeon, physician, politician, and educator. He was a medical pioneer, and in 1867 he performed the first successful cholecystotomy for the removal gallstones. Bobbs was the founder of Indiana Medical College in 1869.
