Stork (film)
''Stork'' is a 1971 Australian comedy film directed by Tim Burstall. ''Stork'' is based on the play '' The Coming of Stork'' by David Williamson. Bruce Spence and Jacki Weaver make their feature film debuts in ''Stork'', being honoured at the 1972 Australian Film Institute Awards, where they shared the acting prize. ''Stork'' won the prize for best narrative feature and Tim Burstall won for best direction. Stork was one of the first ocker comedies. Tim Burstall
Timothy Burstall AM (20 April 1927 – 19 April 2004) was an English Australian film director, writer and producer, best known for hit Australian movie '' Alvin Purple'' (1973) and its sequel '' Alvin Rides Again'' (1974). Burstall's films featured early appearances by many legendary Australian actors including Jack Thompson, Bruce Spence, Jacki Weaver, ''Alvin'' star Graeme Blundell, John Waters and Judy Davis. Speaking just after Burstall's death, David Williamson said that Burstall "couldn't stomach" Australia's lack of a film industry. "He was determined to do something about it and he had the energy and spirit to do it. (He) was a very important cultural figure: highly intelligent, widely read, with a succinct and often highly controversial opinion on everything." Peter Cummins
Donald Cummins (2 June 1931 – October 2024), better known as Peter Cummins, was an Australian actor of stage and screen and chorister who was especially prominent in the 1970s and appeared in some of the most famous Australian films of the period. Cummins was part of the Carlton group that were influential in Australian theatre of the early 1970s, which also included David Williamson, Max Gillies, Graeme Blundell and Bruce Spence. Arthur Merric Bloomfield Boyd (24 July 1920 – 24 April 1999) was a leading Australian painter of the middle to late 20th century. Betty Burstall
Betty Margaret Burstall (born Betty Margaret Rogers 4 February 192614 June 2013) was an Australian theatre director who founded the La Mama Theatre in Melbourne in 1967. Burstall and her theatre are credited with leading the growth of contemporary theatre in Melbourne during the 1960s and 1970s. Biography Burstall was inspired to establish the theatre after returning from New York City. She introduced off-Broadway contemporary theatre to Melbourne through La Mama. Numerous actors and writers have appeared and worked at La Mama, including Graeme Blundell, Kerry Dwyer, Jack Hibberd, and John Romeril, all of whom formed the Australian Performing Group. La Mama Theatre is a not-for-profit theatre in Carlton, Victoria, Australia, first established in 1967. La Mama produces work by theatre makers of all backgrounds. Brian Percy Moll (19 May 1925 – 9 August 2013) was a British-born Australian comedian character actor of stage, television and film and director and producer who emigrated to Australia from his native England in 1950. The Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band, also known as Soapbox Circus or Matchbox, were an Australian jug band formed in 1969. It centred on Mic Conway ("Captain Matchbox") on lead vocals, washboard and ukulele; and his brother, Jim Conway, on harmonica, kazoo and vocals. They issued four studio albums, ''Smoke Dreams'' (June 1973), '' Wangaratta Wahine'' (late 1974), ''Australia'' (November 1975) and ''Slightly Troppo'' (1978), before they disbanded in September 1980. Maxwell Irvine Gillies AM (born 16 November 1941) is an Australian actor and a founding member of the 1970s experimental theatre company, the Australian Performing Group. Early life and education Gillies studied art teaching at Frankston Teachers College and featured in the theatre productions ''School for Scandal'' and '' Summer of the Seventeenth Doll'' with Kerry Dwyer in 1964.
