Store Sotra
Sotra or Store Sotra is the name of a large island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway, located just west of the city of Bergen. It is part of a pair of islands called 'Sotra' and 'Litlesotra' ('small Sotra') that are part of a large archipelago stretching from Fedje southwards along the coast of Norway. The larger island of the two is Store Sotra (also called Sotra), and the smaller (and least populated) of the two is Litlesotra. Roughly 28,700 (2017) people live on the two islands of Sotra, with the larger island having a population of about 19,100 (2017) and 9,589 (2017) living on the smaller island. Geography The main population centres on Sotra include (from north to south) Vindenes, Ågotnes, Knappskog, Møvik, Tælavåg, Hammarsland, Skogsvåg, and Klokkarvik. Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. The county is one of two counties in Norway that have Nynorsk as their official written language form (the others are neutral as to which form people use). Sotra Bridge
The Sotra Bridge ( no, Sotrabrua) is a suspension bridge which crosses Knarreviksundet between Knarrevik in Øygarden Municipality and Drotningsvik on the mainland of Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It carries two road lanes and two narrow pedestrian paths of National Road 555, providing a fixed link for the archipelago of Sotra. The bridge is long, has a main span of and a clearance of . In 2007, it had an average 25,494 vehicles per day. The bridge was brought into use on 11 December 1971, although not officially opened until 1972. It cost 40 million Norwegian krone (NOK) to build, of which NOK 23.5 million was paid for with tolls, which were collected until 1983. When it opened, it was the longest suspension bridge in Norway, but is now the seventh longest. Toftøyna
Toftøyna or Toftøy is an island in Øygarden municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island is the southernmost of the main islands of Øygarden. It is connected by bridge to the island of Rongøy (to the north), to the small island of Turøy (to the southwest), and to the island of Misje in Fjell municipality (to the south). Toftøyna is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges by heading south via Misje island. There are 2 main settlements on the rocky island: Vikavågen on the southeastern shore and Torsteinsvik on the northwestern shore. The main road on the island is Norwegian County Road 561 which runs between the two villages, connecting it to the surrounding islands. The Hjeltefjorden flows along the eastern shore of the island and the North Sea lies to the west. Misje
Misje is an island (and village) in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies just south of the island of Toftøyna and north of the large island of Sotra. Almost all of the 257 inhabitants (as of 2009) live on the eastern part of the island, which is referred to as the village of Misje. Historically, the island was part of the old municipality of Herdla. In 1964, it was transferred to the newly established municipality of Fjell (and then part of Øygarden since 2020). The island has been connected to the neighboring island of Sotra by the Solviksundet Bridge since 1982. Sotra, in turn, is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges. Algrøyna
Algrøyna or Algrøy is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The island lies just west of the large island of Sotra and north of the small island of Lokøyna. There are a series of bridges connecting it to the island of Sotra, which in turn is connected to the mainland. The highest point on the island is the tall mountain Hillefjellet. Almost all the residents of the island live along the northern shore, in a village area that is referred to as Algrøyna. Toftøya
Toftøya or Toftarøyna is an island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. Geography The island lies just south of the large island of Sotra, along the northern side of the Korsfjorden. The village of Klokkarvik lies about northeast of the island. The island is connected to Sotra by a bridge on County Road 200.
