George Stonhouse
Sir George Stonhouse, 3rd Baronet (28 August 1603 – 31 March 1675) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1640 to 1644 and from 1660 to 1675. He supported the Royalists during the English Civil War. Stonhouse was the son of Sir William Stonhouse, 1st Baronet of Radley and his wife Elizabeth Powell, daughter of John Powell of Wales. He succeeded to the Baronetcy on the death of his elder brother in 1632. He was elected for Abingdon again in November 1640 for the Long Parliament Stonhouse stayed loyal to King Charles I, attending the parliament in Oxford, so he was disabled from the Westminster parliament in January 1644. Stonhouse Baronets
There have been three baronetcies created for members of the Stonhouse family, all in the Baronetage of England. Two of the creations are extant as of 2021. The Stonhouse Baronetcy, of Radley in the County of Berkshire, was created in the Baronetage of England on 7 May 1628 (#253) for William Stonhouse. He was the eldest son of George Stonhouse (died 1573), sometime Clerk of the Green Cloth. The second Baronet sat as Member of Parliament for Abingdon. The third Baronet also represented Abingdon in the House of Commons. He disinherited his eldest son, George, and attempted to eliminate him from succession to the baronetcy. In 1670 he surrendered his patent and on 5 May 1670 he obtained a new patent (with the same territorial designation), with remainder to his two younger sons, and with the precedency of the original creation.
