Stoney Ground (song)
Stoney Ground was a single for UK soul group The Foundations. It made it on to the US ''Billboard'' chart in 1972. It also represented the group's last charting first release of a single. Background "Stoney Ground" was composed by Conan Byrne and Warren Davis. It was backed with I'll Give You Love", a Colin Young composition. It's more than likely that Conan Byrne is Con Byrne and Warren Davis is the Warren Davis, both of The Warren Davis Monday Band. Interestingly, Davis had tried out to take the place of Clem Curtis who had decided to leave The Foundations in 1968. Byrne and Davis had also composed "Honey (I Need Your Love)" for Mighty Dodos which was produced by Barry Kingston and released on the Spark label in 1971. "Stoney Ground" was released in the UK on MCA MKS 5075. It was also released in the United States on Uni 55315. The Foundations
The Foundations were a British soul band who were primarily active between 1967 and 1970. The group's background was West Indian, White British and Sri Lankan. Their 1967 debut single " Baby Now That I've Found You" reached number one in the UK and Canada, and number eleven in the US. Their 1968 single " Build Me Up Buttercup" reached number two in the UK and number three on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The group was the first multi-racial group to have a number one hit in the UK in the 1960s. The Foundations were one of the few British acts to imitate successfully what became known as the Motown Sound. The Foundations signed to Pye, at the time one of only four big UK record companies (the others being EMI, which included the His Master's Voice, Columbia and Parlophone labels, Decca, and Philips, which also owned Fontana). Blue Mink
Blue Mink were a British six-piece pop group that existed from 1969 to 1977. Over that period they had six top 20 hit singles on the UK Singles Chart, and released five studio based albums. According to AllMusic: "they have been immortalised on a string of compilation albums, each recounting the string of effervescent hits that established them among Britain's best-loved pop groups of the early 1970s." Career Roger Coulam (keyboards) formed the band in the autumn of 1969, with American-born Madeline Bell (vocalist), Roger Cook (vocalist), Alan Parker (guitarist), Herbie Flowers (bassist), and Barry Morgan (drummer). Most of the songs were written by Cook and Roger Greenaway. Flowers, Morgan and Parker all worked with Coulam at London's Morgan Studios. Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (also known as Bubbling Under the Hot 100) is a chart published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine in the United States. CJKX-FM (95.9 FM, "KX96") is a radio station licensed to Ajax, Ontario. Owned by Durham Radio, it broadcasts a country music format serving the Durham region. Climax was an American band formed in 1970 in Los Angeles, California, most noted for their 1971-1972 hit song " Precious and Few", which peaked at No. 3 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart and No. 1 on ''Cashbox'' magazine's Top 100 singles chart. This disc sold over one million copies and was certified gold by the RIAA on February 21, 1972. Career Climax initially consisted of lead singer Sonny Geraci; composer and guitarist Walter D. Nims; composer, singer, and keyboardist Nick D'Amico (Nicola Marcello D'Amico); and drummer Jon Jon Guttman (who wrote several songs on the band's lone album and also played other percussion). "Baby, Now That I've Found You" is a song written by Tony Macaulay and John Macleod, and performed by the Foundations. Part of the song was written in the same bar of a Soho tavern where Karl Marx is supposed to have written ''Das Kapital''. The lyrics are a plea that an unnamed subject not break up with the singer. Background According to Roy Delo of the group, The Ways and Means who were managed by Ron Fairway, they were offered the chance to record "Baby Now That I've Found You". They already had some success with their single, "Sea of Faces". One day Tony Macaulay came around and got out a guitar. They heard the song and said "yeh, it’s a nice catchy song, but it's not the sort of song for us", and to their later regret, turned it down.
