The Stonepine Estate is a hotel located in Carmel Valley, Monterey County, California, United States. Stonepine provides luxury accommodations, dining, weddings, corporate retreats, and equestrian activities. The property consists of two main areas: Chateau Noel and the Double H Ranch. It is listed on the National Registry of the Historic Hotels of America. It was once the oldest thoroughbred breeding facility west of the Mississippi. History The estate was built in 1920 for Helen Crocker Russell (daughter of banker William Henry Crocker) and her husband, Henry Porter Russell, and was known as Double H Ranch, in the style of a Mediterranean estate. Carmel Valley is an unincorporated community in Monterey County, California, United States. The term "Carmel Valley" generally refers to the Carmel River watershed east of California State Route 1, and not specifically to the smaller Carmel Valley Village. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Carmel Valley as a census county division (CCD), with an area covering approximately . Rancho Los Laureles was a Mexican land grant in present-day Monterey County, California given in 1839 by Governor Juan Alvarado to José M. Boronda and Vicente Blas Martínez. Los Laureles refers to the California Bay Laurel tree. The grant extended along the Carmel River and the Carmel Valley, was bounded to the east by the Rancho Tularcitos and Rancho Los Laureles (Ransom) on the west, and encompasses present day Carmel Valley Village. History The one and a half square league grant was made to Vicente Blas Martinez and José Manuel Boronda, along with Boronda's son, Juan de Mata Boronda.
