Stone Mills is a lower-tier township north of Greater Napanee in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. According to the 2021 census, the township has a population of 7,826. The Township of Stone Mills was formed on January 1, 1998, through the amalgamation of the Village of Newburgh, the Township of Camden, and the Township of Sheffield. Greater Napanee
Greater Napanee is a town in Eastern Ontario, southeastern Ontario, Canada, approximately west of Kingston, Ontario, Kingston and the county seat of Lennox and Addington County. It is located on the eastern end of the Bay of Quinte. Greater Napanee municipality was created on January 1, 1998, by the amalgamation of the Town of Napanee with Adolphustown Township, North Fredericksburg Township and South Fredericksburg Township, and Richmond Township. Greater Napanee is co-extensive with the original Lennox County. The town is home to the Allan Macpherson House, a historic 1826 property that is now a museum. Macpherson was a major in the Lennox militia, operated the town's grist and saw mills, as well as the distillery and general store. He served as post master and land agent, operated the first local printing press and helped fund the establishment of many local schools and churches. A designated place (DPL) is a type of community or settlement identified by Statistics Canada that does not meet the criteria used to define municipalities or population centres. DPLs are delineated every 5 years for the Canadian census as the statistical counterparts of incorporated places such as cities, towns, and villages. The Salmon River is a river in Ontario, Canada. The river flows south from about 200 metres south of Mazinaw Lake into Kennebec Lake near the community of Arden, part of Central Frontenac, Frontenac County, through a chain of small lakes and through part of Lennox and Addington County to the Bay of Quinte on Lake Ontario near the community of Shannonville, part of Tyendinaga, Hastings County. ''Harrowsmith Country Life'' was a magazine that explored and showcased country living. Originally called ''Harrowsmith'', the magazine was heralded as a back-to-the-land and environmental issues platform. In 1976, founder James M. Lawrence cut and pasted the first issues together on a kitchen table in the tiny village of Camden East (pop. 256) in Ontario, Canada. Within two years, the magazine had over 100,000 subscribers and eventually became Canada's 8th largest magazine. Camden House Publishing Inc. was created in 1977 as the parent company for the Harrowsmith and Equinox magazines and later for many books. Tamworth, Ontario
Tamworth is a small community in Stone Mills township in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada. Tamworth is located due north of Napanee, and northeast of Belleville, near Beaver Lake. Beaver Lake flows into the Salmon River which runs through Tamworth and this flowing water was the source of much of the commerce of Tamworth's former mills. History Originally settled in 1826, Calvin Wheeler built several mills here in the 1840s and it was originally known as Wheeler's Mills. In 1848, a post office opened under the current name, named after Tamworth, Staffordshire. Wheeler was an admirer of Sir Robert Peel, member of Parliament for Tamworth. The area was settled by many Irish immigrants and by 1865 the population of the area was 500. In 1884 the Tamworth and Quebec Railway had three trains departing to Napanee each day.
