Stol Air Commuter was a United States commuter airline that began service around . The air carrier was also known as STOL Air Commuter thus reflecting its use of STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft. It served the San Francisco, California Bay Area, and northern California. The airline was based in San Rafael in Marin County north of the city of San Francisco and also had administrative offices located in Santa Rosa, CA at one point. Stol Air Commuter operated scheduled passenger air service connecting several cities in the San Francisco Bay Area as well as northern California with San Francisco International Airport (SFO). According to the airline's system timetable, in the spring of 1975 Stol Air Commuter was operating 66 daily flights serving SFO via United Airlines gate 10 at the airport. A short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft is a fixed-wing aircraft that can takeoff/land on short runways. Many STOL-designed aircraft can operate on airstrips with harsh conditions (such as high altitude or ice). STOL aircraft, including those used in scheduled passenger airline operations, can be operated from STOLport airfields that feature short runways. Design STOL aircraft come in configurations such as bush planes, autogyros, and Conventional landing gear, taildraggers, and those such as the de Havilland Canada Dash-7 that are designed for use on conventional airstrips. Britten-Norman BN-2A Trislander
The Britten-Norman Trislander (more formally designated the BN-2A Mk III Trislander) is a three-engined piston-powered utility aircraft designed and produced by the British aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman. The Trislander was designed in the late 1960s as an expanded derivative of the company's Islander, a twin-engined commercial aircraft that had proved to be a commercial success. In comparison to its predecessor, it had a larger carrying capacity, being capable of seating up to 18 passengers, and could also perform STOL operations when required. Ukiah Municipal Airport is a public airport located one mile (1.6 km) south of Ukiah, serving Mendocino County, California, United States. This general aviation airport covers and has one runway. Marin County Airport or Gnoss Field , formerly O56, is a public airport two miles northeast of Novato, California, United States. It covers , and has one runway and one helipad.
