Stockton RFC
Stockton Rugby Football Club is an English amateur rugby union club, situated in Stockton-on-Tees, County Durham, England. Founded in 1873, it currently competes in the Durham/Northumberland 1 division, the seventh tier of the English rugby union system, English rugby union league system, following their relegation from Regional 2 North in 2024. They have played at The Grangefield Ground since 2015, after their move from Norton. The club were known in their earlier days for having an excellent young team. The introduction of professionalism into the game resulted in the club having a major downfall, though have recently recovered, and are currently respected for their constant pushes for promotion. Scott Powell serves as director of rugby. The Durham County Rugby Football Union is the sports governing body, governing body for the sport of rugby union in the historic county of Durham in England. Leicester Tigers (officially Leicester Football Club) are a professional rugby union club based in Leicester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. Newcastle Falcons is a rugby union team that play in Premiership Rugby, England's highest division of rugby union. The club was established in 1877 as the Gosforth Football Club. Around 1882 the club merged with the Northumberland Football Club and briefly assumed their name until 1887. In 1990, the name was changed to Newcastle Gosforth and the club began to play at Kingston Park stadium in Kingston Park, Newcastle upon Tyne. Geoff Parling (born 28 October 1983) is an English rugby union coach and former player. His usual playing position was Lock (rugby union), lock. Parling played for Newcastle Falcons, Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs in Premiership Rugby, he won three English titles as a player, two with Leicester in 2009–10 Premiership Rugby, 2010 and 2012–13 Premiership Rugby, 2013 then again with Exeter in 2016–17 Premiership Rugby, 2017. He played in Japan for Munakata Sanix Blues and for Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby. North East 1
North East 1 was an English Rugby Union league which was at the 7th tier of the domestic competition and was available to teams in North East England. Promoted teams moved up to North 2 East while relegated teams dropped to North East 2. The division was abolished at the end of the 1999–2000 season due to RFU restructuring with teams either being moved up to North 2 East or dropping down to regional leagues such as Yorkshire 1 or Durham/Northumberland 1. As a result of the RFU introducing the Courage League Division 5, between 1994 and 1996, some teams from North East 1 was merged with some teams from North West 1, taking the name North Division 2. However, North East 1 remained as a league, but one rung further down the ladder. Grangefield, Stockton-on-Tees
Stockton-on-Tees is a market town in County Durham, England, with a population of 84,815 at the 2021 UK census. It gives its name to and is the largest settlement in the wider Borough of Stockton-on-Tees. It is part of Teesside and the Tees Valley, on the northern bank of the River Tees. The River Tees was straightened in the early 19th century, so that larger ships could access the town. The ports have since relocated closer to the North Sea, and ships are no longer able to sail from the sea to the town. This is due to the building of the Tees Barrage, which was installed to manage tidal flooding. The Stockton and Darlington Railway served the port during the early part of the Industrial Revolution. The railway was also the world's first permanent steam-powered passenger railway.
