Stillaguamish River
The Stillaguamish River is a river in the northwestern region of the U.S. state of Washington. It is mainly composed of two forks, the longer North Fork Stillaguamish () and the South Fork Stillaguamish. The two forks join near Arlington. From there the Stillaguamish River proper flows for to Puget Sound. The river's watershed drains part of the Cascade Range north of Seattle. Name The Stillaguamish River's name is derived from the Stillaguamish people, the Lushootseed-speaking people who had several villages along the river's course. Their name, Stillaguamish, is derived from their Lushootseed endonym, , meaning "river people." Variant spellings of the Stillaguamish River, according to the USGS, include Stoh-luk-whahmpsh River, Steilaguamish River, and Stalukahamish River. Verlot is a census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. The population was 340 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 6.5 square miles (16.8 km2), of which, 6.4 square miles (16.5 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.4 km2) of it (2.15%) is water. Florence Island (Washington)
Florence Island is the main island formed by the diked river delta of the Stillaguamish River as it flows into Port Susan on Puget Sound. The historic Snohomish County settlement of Florence is located on the delta and gives the island its name. Florence Island is connected to the mainland by three bridges heading in the directions of Stanwood to the north, Silvana and Arlington to the east, and Warm Beach to the south. Bridges Old Thomle Bridge A truss bridge carried the main vehicular traffic over the Stilliguamish river between Stanwood and Florence. It was replaced by the current bridge in 1959 but remained open for local access for two decades. The bridge was closed to traffic in 1979 after the county determined rebuilding the bridge would be too costly. The bridge itself was removed and salvaged in November 1979. Silvana is a rural community and census-designated place (CDP) in Snohomish County, Washington, United States. Its population was 97 at the 2020 census. Geography Silvana is located on Silvana Island in the Stillaguamish River floodplain. The name of the island is Silvana Island, an island east of Florence Island. The main channel of the river passes to the north of Silvana Island, while South Slough to the southwest and Cook Slough to the southeast also form the general boundaries of the community. Morning Star Peak is a mountain summit located near the western edge of the North Cascades, in Snohomish County of Washington state. It is situated southwest of Barlow Pass along the Mountain Loop Highway near the Monte Cristo area. It is set on land managed by Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. Del Campo Peak is a prominent summit near the western edge of the North Cascades, in Snohomish County of Washington state.
