Stieff Silver
The Stieff Company is a silverware company located in Baltimore, Maryland. It has also been known as Kirk-Stieff since 1979. History Charles Clinton Stieff and partners created the Florence Silver Company on December 2, 1892, shortly after the financial failure of the Klank Manufacturing Company. George Klank was a Baltimore silversmith who had been a part of Klank & Bro. silversmiths. On his own, his new firm lasted only 10 months. Upon the failure of the business, Charles C. Stieff was named as the receiver. He and partners revived the business with great success. The original name lasted less than a year, with a name change to the Baltimore Sterling Silver Manufacturing Company. By 1895, the name was shortened to the Baltimore Sterling Silver Company. Hellmuth Stieff
Hellmuth Ludwig Gustav Arnold Stieff (6 June 1901 – 8 August 1944) was a German general and a member of the OKH (German Army Headquarters) during World War II. He took part in attempts by the German resistance to assassinate Adolf Hitler on 7 and 20 July 1944. Early career Stieff was born in Deutsch Eylau (now Iława, Poland) in the province of West Prussia as the son of Artillery Major Wilhelm Bruno Walter Stieff and his wife Anna Laura Maria Carla néé Krause. He graduated early in July 1918 in order to enter the Imperial German Army and was assigned with the rank of ''Kriegsfreiwilliger'' (rough equivalent to Private) to the replacement battalion of Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 71 "Groß-Komtur". Charles Stieff
Charles M. Stieff (1805–1862) was a 19th-century American industrialist and piano manufacturer, based in Baltimore, Maryland. Although his company went out of business in 1951, Stieff pianos are still highly regarded. They are often referred to as "The poor man's Steinway". Biography Charles Maximilian Stieff was born in Württemberg on July 19, 1805 and was educated at Stuttgart. In 1831 he emigrated to America and settled at Baltimore, where he took a chair in Haspart's school as professor of languages and also acted as leader of a church choir. In 1842 he imported his first pianos from Germany, and opened piano warerooms on Liberty Street in 1843. Observing the success of the various piano manufacturers in Baltimore, Stieff undertook an extensive trip to Europe in 1852, studying the methods of the best piano manufacturers there. Stieff Silver Company Factory is a historic silver factory located at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a two-story nine-bay rectangular brick factory building, designed by Theodore Wells Pietsch and built in two stages in 1925 and 1929. The exterior features a lighted sign flanking a central clock that rises above a parapeted roof. The Stieff Silver Company was the last of the Baltimore silverware manufacturers, operating between 1892 and 1999. Dave Stief
David P. Stief (January 29, 1956 – May 28, 2000) was an American football wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Washington Redskins. Born in Portland, Oregon, he played college football at Portland State University and was selected in the seventh round of the 1978 NFL draft. Dave Stief played a key role in Mouse Davis’ early Run-and-Shoot offenses at Portland State. During his four seasons, Stief set PSU career records for most touchdown receptions (22) and most receiving yards (2,581). He also set a PSU season record for most touchdown catches in a season (12 in 1977). Stief made one of the most memorable catches in PSU history, the game-winning touchdown in the historic 50–49 win over Montana in 1976. Bo Stief (born 15 October 1946) is a Danish jazz and rock bassist, composer, and arranger born in Copenhagen. He has worked or recorded with Don Cherry, Miles Davis, Warne Marsh, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Jackie McLean, George Russell, Kenny Drew and Ben Webster, among many other prominent jazz musicians.
