Steven W. May (academic)
Steven W. May is an American academic and author specializing in English Renaissance poetry. Life He obtained his B.A. at Rockford College and his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He served as professor of English at Northern Illinois University, and then at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Kentucky, for 35 years, where he received the Cawthorne "Excellence in Teaching" Award in 1991. He retired from full-time teaching in 2004 and currently is a senior research fellow and the principal investigator on the "Early Modern Manuscript Poetry: Recovering our Scribal Heritage" project at the University of Sheffield. English Renaissance
The English Renaissance was a cultural and artistic movement in England from the early 16th century to the early 17th century. It is associated with the pan-European Renaissance that is usually regarded as beginning in Italy in the late 14th century. As in most of the rest of northern Europe, England saw little of these developments until more than a century later. Renaissance style and ideas, however, were slow to penetrate England, and the Elizabethan era in the second half of the 16th century is usually regarded as the height of the English Renaissance. However, many scholars see its beginnings in the early 16th century, during the reign of Henry VIII. The English Renaissance is different from the Italian Renaissance in several ways. Heather Wolfe
Heather Ruth Wolfe (born 1971) is an American curator of manuscripts and archivist at the Folger Shakespeare Library. A " Shakespeare detective", she has been noted for her research into the history of the Shakespeare coat of arms. She headed "Shakespeare Documented", a project to make contemporary texts involving Shakespeare available online, and is involved in the similar "Early Modern Manuscripts Online" (EMMO) project. At the Folger, her "Project Dustbunny" has yielded significant results from human cells gathered from 17th-century volumes. Wolfe was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London on 16 February 2023.
