Steven Schmidt
Steven J. Schmidt is an American media entrepreneur and a political and environmental activist. Biography Steven Schmidt was the lieutenant governor nominee of the Green Party in New Mexico in 1994, receiving 10.4 percent of the vote, an unusually high percent of the vote for third party candidates. As a result of the vote, the New Mexico Green Party became the first independent political party in the state’s history to qualify as a major party with ballot-access under state election law. After the campaign, Schmidt was nominated for a constitutional position on the New Mexico State Board of Education and confirmed by the Legislature. As "constitutional officers" the Board members were responsible for policy, management and oversight of over 50 percent of the state budget. The 1994 New Mexico gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 1994, for the four-year term beginning on January 1, 1995. Candidates for governor and lieutenant governor ran on a ticket as running mates. Incumbent Democrat Bruce King ran for a fourth term with Patricia Madrid as a running mate, losing to Republican nominees Gary Johnson, a businessman, and Walter Bradley, a former state senator. The ''Global Greens Charter'' is a document that 800 delegates from the Green parties of 72 countries decided upon a first gathering of the Global Greens in Canberra, Australia in April 2001. The first part contains six guiding principles, whereas the second part specifies what political action should be taken. The second part of the charter was modified in Dakar, Senegal in 2012 at the third Global Greens Congress. The signatory parties and political movements of the ''Global Greens Charter'' commit themselves to global partnership and to six guiding principles. Paul Wellstone
Paul David Wellstone (July 21, 1944 – October 25, 2002) was an American academic, author, and politician who represented Minnesota in the United States Senate from 1991 until he was killed in a plane crash near Eveleth, Minnesota, in 2002. A member of the Democratic Party ( DFL), Wellstone was a leader of the populist and progressive wings of the party. Born in Washington, D.C., Wellstone grew up in Northern Virginia. He went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor's of Arts and a doctorate in political science. In 1969, Wellstone was hired as a professor at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he taught until his election to the Senate in 1990.
