Steven Griffiths
Steven Paul Griffiths (born 25 May 1962) is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 2006 to 2018, representing the electorate of Goyder for the Liberal Party. He was the Deputy leader of the opposition under Isobel Redmond from 2009 to 2010. Biography Griffiths was elected to the safe Liberal seat of Goyder at the 2006 state election to replace retiring sitting member John Meier. Griffiths was elected with a margin of 9.1 points, suffering a 7.1-point swing. Griffiths has held shadow ministries since 2007, and in 2009 was elected to the deputy leadership of his party with Isobel Redmond being elected to the leadership. On Tuesday 30 March 2010, Griffiths was replaced by former leader Martin Hamilton-Smith as deputy. The Leader of the Opposition in South Australia is the leader of the largest minority political party or coalition of parties, known as the Opposition, in the House of Assembly of the Parliament of South Australia. By convention, the leader of the opposition is a member of the House of Assembly. The leader acts as the public face of the opposition, and acts as a chief critic of the government and ultimately attempt to portray the opposition as a feasible alternate government. The state election for the 51st Parliament of South Australia was held in the Australian state of South Australia on 18 March 2006 to elect all members of the South Australian House of Assembly and 11 members of the South Australian Legislative Council. The election was conducted by the independent State Electoral Office. 2018 South Australian State Election
The 2018 South Australian state election to elect members to the 54th Parliament of South Australia was held on 17 March 2018. All 47 seats in the House of Assembly or lower house, whose members were elected at the 2014 election, and 11 of 22 seats in the Legislative Council or upper house, last filled at the 2010 election, were contested. It was a 9,258 km² rural electorate located on the Yorke Peninsula and taking in the towns of Ardrossan, Bute, Edithburgh, Kadina, Maitland, Minlaton, Moonta, Port Wakefield, Wallaroo and Yorketown. The electorate was named after George Goyder, a former state Surveyor-General famous for developing Goyder's Line, which indicated the area of the state that had enough rainfall to be suitable for agriculture. From the 2018 election, Goyder was renamed to Narungga. History The abolished seat of Yorke Peninsula formed part of the newly created seat of Goyder at the 1970 election. Goyder has been in non-Labor hands for the entire time from its creation at the electoral redistribution of 1969 until it was abolished in 2018.
