Steve Rivkin
Steve Rivkin (January 13, 1947 – November 16, 2016) was an American marketing and communications consultant, author and speaker. He founded Rivkin & Associates LLC in 1989. Biography The son of a pharmacist, Rivkin came from a medical family that included a general practitioner, a thoracic surgeon, an ob-gyn, a radiologist, and an infertility specialist. He consulted with healthcare organizations and more than 100 community hospitals on marketing and public affairs issues, working with a partner Fraser P. Seitel, author of ''The Practice of Public Relations''. Jack Trout
John Francis "Jack" Trout (January 31, 1935 – June 4, 2017) was an American advertising executive and an owner of Trout & Partners, a consulting firm. He was one of the founders and pioneers of positioning theory and also marketing warfare theory. Career Trout started his business career in the advertising department of General Electric. From there he went on to become a divisional advertising manager at Uniroyal. He then joined Al Ries in the advertising agency and marketing strategy firm where they worked together for over twenty-six years. Al Ries
Alfred Paul Ries (November 14, 1926 – October 7, 2022) was an American marketing professional and author. He was the cofounder and chairman of the Atlanta-based consulting firm Ries & Ries with his partner and daughter, Laura Ries. Along with Jack Trout, Ries is credited with resurrecting the idea of " positioning" in the field of marketing. Trout & Ries was known for publicizing and then putting into practice the concepts in their 'Positioning. The Battle For Your Mind'' book. Positioning (marketing)
Positioning refers to the place that a brand occupies in the minds of the customers and how it is distinguished from the products of the competitors and different from the concept of brand awareness. In order to position products or brands, companies may emphasize the distinguishing features of their brand (what it is, what it does and how, etc.) or they may try to create a suitable image (inexpensive or premium, utilitarian or luxurious, entry-level or high-end, etc.) through the marketing mix. Once a brand has achieved a strong position, it can become difficult to reposition it. Positioning is one of the most powerful marketing concepts.
