Stephen Gibson (born 9 January 1958) is a British entrepreneur and the chairman and owner of Middlesbrough F.C., Middlesbrough. In May 2024, he was 350th on the ''Sunday Times Rich List'', with a net worth of £640 million. He is the second richest person from North East England. Gibson was born in Middlesbrough and raised in the Park End, Middlesbrough, Park End area of the town. Raised Catholic, he attended local schools, St Pius X Primary and St Mary's College, Middlesbrough, St Mary's College. In 1979, he became Middlesbrough's youngest ever Labour Party (UK), Labour councillor, being elected to represent Park End at age 21. He is the uncle of Stoke City defender Ben Gibson. The inaugural Tees Valley mayoral election was held on 4 May 2017 to elect the mayor of the Tees Valley Combined Authority. The mayor was elected by the supplementary vote system. Subsequent elections were held in May 2021 and every four years after 2024. North East England was considered a Labour stronghold and prior to the election, the Labour candidate Sue Jeffrey was considered the overwhelming favourite. James Stephen Wharton, Baron Wharton of Yarm (born 16 February 1984) is a British Conservative Party politician. Ray Mallon (born 1955) is a British politician who was the independent Mayor of Middlesbrough from 2002 to 2015. Prior to his political career he served in the police until he resigned after pleading guilty to charges of misconduct. Early life Mallon was born to an undertaker and was raised as a Catholic. He left school at the age of sixteen with no qualifications. He played water polo internationally. Police career Mallon joined Cleveland Police in 1974. He was appointed detective chief inspector for Hartlepool in 1994. During his tenure in this role, crime fell in the area by 35%.
