Steve Chailloux
Steve Chailloux is a French Polynesian politician and member of the French National Assembly. He is a member of Tavini Huiraatira, and sits with the New Ecologic and Social People's Union in the National Assembly. Chailloux was born in Papeete and grew up in Faaa and Papeari. He studied at the University of French Polynesia before moving to the Sorbonne and the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences, graduating in 2009. He then moved to the University of Hawaiʻi, where he taught ''Reo Tahiti'' for ten years. After returning to Tahiti in 2017, he taught ''Reo Tahiti'' to local students. Having previously supported autonomist parties, he joined Tavini Huiraatira in 2013. He worked as a parliamentary attache to National Assembly member Moetai Brotherson. In the 2020 French Polynesian municipal elections he was elected a town Councillor in Teva I Uta. French Polynesia's 2nd Constituency
French Polynesia's 2nd constituency is a French legislative constituency in French Polynesia. It is currently represented by Nicole Sanquer of A here ia Porinetia. Following the 2010 redistricting of French legislative constituencies, which came into application for the June 2012 legislative election, the boundaries of French Polynesia's two constituencies were redrawn so as to create a third constituency in the collectivity. Moetai Brotherson
Moetai Charles Brotherson (born 22 October 1969) is a French Polynesian politician who has served as President of French Polynesia since 12 May 2023. He had previously represented French Polynesia's 3rd constituency in the French National Assembly from the 2017. A member of Tāvini Huiraʻatira, he had also served as a member of the Assembly of French Polynesia from 2018. Brotherson has been deputy leader of Tāvini Huiraʻatira since 2017 under the leadership of former President of French Polynesia Oscar Temaru. Following the 2023 French Polynesian legislative election, Brotherson was elected President of French Polynesia by the Assembly of French Polynesia. He supports French Polynesia peacefully gaining independence from France through a local referendum possibly to be held in the 2030s. 2023 French Polynesian Legislative Election
Elections to the Assembly of French Polynesia are scheduled to be held in 2023 in order to elect 57 representatives to the Assembly of French Polynesia. The last election was in 2018. Background The 2018 French Polynesian legislative election saw the Tapura Huiraatira party led by Édouard Fritch emerge as the largest in the Assembly, winning 38 of the 57 seats. The Assembly of French Polynesia (french: Assemblée de la Polynésie française, Tahitian: Te apo'ora'a rahi o te fenua Mā'ohi) is the unicameral legislature of French Polynesia, an overseas country of the French Republic. It is located at Place Tarahoi in Pape'ete, Tahiti. It was established in its current form in 1996 although a Tahitian Assembly was first created in 1824. It consists of 57 members who are elected by popular vote for five years; the electoral system is based upon proportional representation in six multi-seat constituencies.
