Friedrich Wilhelm August Heinrich Ferdinand Freiherr von Steuben ( , ; born Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin Louis Freiherr von Steuben; September 17, 1730 – November 28, 1794), also referred to as Baron von Steuben, was a German-born American army officer who played a leading role in the American Revolutionary War by reforming the Continental Army into a disciplined and professional fighting force. His contributions marked a significant improvement in the performance of U.S. troops. Born into a military family, Steuben was exposed to war from an early age; at 14 years old, he observed his father directing Prussian engineers in the Siege of Prague (1742), 1744 siege of Prague. USS ''Von Steuben'' (SSBN-632), a fleet ballistic missile submarine, was the second ship of the United States Navy to be named for Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (1730–1794), a Prussian army officer who served in the American Revolutionary War. Kuno Von Steuben
Kuno Arndt von Steuben (Eisenach, 9 April 1855 – Berlin, 14 January 1935) was a Prussian military officer, and a general in the First World War. Life He was born in a noble family, of which Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben (1730–1794) is best known. He joined the Prussian Army at the age of 13. By 1911 he commanded the 36th Division as lieutenant general. In 1913 he was director of the Prussian Military Academy. Moltke had asked Kaiser for his promotion to General der Infanterie. Steuben was promoted on 19 August 1914, shortly after the beginning of World War I. At the outbreak of the war, he received command of the XVIII Reserve Corps. His corps was part of 4th Army, commanded by Albrecht, Duke of Württemberg, on the march to the Marne river. Fritz Steuben
Fritz Steuben (3 December 1898 – 4 June 1981), the pen name of Erhard Wittek, was a German author who wrote popular novels and stories about romanticised Native Americans. His bestselling novels depicting the life of the Shawnee chief Tecumseh were influenced by national socialism. He wrote several war novels based on personal experiences in World War I, including "Durchbruch anno achtzehn: Ein Fronterlebnis" (''"Breakthrough 1918: A Frontline Experience"'') and other novels under his birth name. Steuben Glass Works
Steuben Glass is an American art glass manufacturer, founded in the summer of 1903 by Frederick Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an Englishman (born September 18, 1863) who had many years' experience designing glass for Stevens & Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so. In 1918, Steuben was acquired by Corning Glass Works and became the Steuben Division. Named after counties in Indiana and New York (state), New York, she was the only U.S. Naval vessel to bear the name. Service history Completed too late for service in World War II, ''LST-1138'' performed occupation duty in the Far East until early January 1946.
