Stephen Scullion
Stephen Scullion (born 9 November 1988) is an Irish Middle-distance running, middle-distance and long-distance runner. Early life Scullion was born in Belfast and attended Wellington College Belfast, Wellington College. Athletic career Scullion was selected for Northern Ireland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Northern Ireland at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the 1500m and 5000m, but missed out due to illness. He competed in the 3000 metres at the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships and in the 10000 m at the 2018 European Athletics Championships. At the 2019 Houston Marathon he finished tenth in a personal best, despite taking a wrong turn and being corrected by a member of the public. He qualified for the 2019 World Athletics Championships – Men's marathon, 2019 World Championships and for the 2020 Summer Olympics. 2017 London Marathon
The 2017 London Marathon was the 37th running of the annual marathon race in London, England, which took place on Sunday, 23 April. Mary Jepkosgei Keitany won the women's race, setting a new women-only marathon world record with a time of 2:17:01, while Daniel Wanjiru came first in the men's race in 2:05:48. David Weir (wheelchair athlete), David Weir claimed a record breaking seventh win at the London Marathon in the men's wheelchair event. The win broke a tie between Weir and Tanni Gray Thompson for the most wins at the London Marathon. Around 253,930 people applied to enter the race: 53,229 had their applications accepted and 40,048 started the race. These were all record highs for the race. 2019 World Athletics Championships – Men's Marathon
The men's marathon was one of the road events at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar. Due to the heat in Doha, the race was scheduled to begin at 23:59 on 5 October 2019. Even with the unusual timing, high temperatures were expected to provide difficult conditions for running, but in the end temperatures dropped to around and 50% humidity. The race was won by Lelisa Desisa of Ethiopia in , followed four seconds behind by his compatriot Mosinet Geremew. Amos Kipruto of Kenya was third in 2:10:51. The marathon was held on Doha Corniche, and consisted of six laps of a roughly floodlit course. The men's marathon at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, as part of the athletics programme, was held in Victoria Square, Birmingham on 30 July 2022. Field Athletics Weekly named the favourite as the Tanzanian Alphonce Simbu, who finished third at the 2017 World Athletics Championships and had a season best of 2:06:20. Kenya's Jonathan Korir held the fastest personal best in the field; 2:04:32 achieved in Amsterdam in 2021 but his best time for 2022 was 2:08:04 at the Tokyo Marathon on 6 March. The men's marathon event at the 2020 Summer Olympics started at 07:00 on 8 August 2021 in Sapporo, Japan. 106 athletes from 46 nations competed.
