Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu
Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu (called Stephen Kaziimba; also spelled Kazima; born 15 August 1962) is a Ugandan Anglican bishop. On 28 August 2019, he was elected to serve as the ninth Archbishop of Uganda and Bishop of Kampala, effective 1 March 2020. In his capacity as Archbishop of Uganda, he is the head of the Church of Uganda. Prior to his new position, he served as the Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Mityana, from 2009 until 2020. Early life and education Mugalu was born on 15 August 1962, to Jessica Nanyonjo and Besweri Kaddu, at Gulama-Najja Village, Kyaggwe County, in present-day Buikwe District. He attended ''Gakuweebwa Munno Nursery School'' and then ''Lusaka Primary School'', in Katwe, a neighborhood in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. He was baptised by Canon Y. The Most Reverend (abbreviated as The Most Revd or The Most Rev) is an honorific style (form of address), style given to certain (primarily Western Christian, Western) Christian clergy and Christian minister, ministers. Ebrahim Raisolsadati (14 December 1960 – 19 May 2024), better known as Ebrahim Raisi, was an Iranian politician who served as the eighth president of Iran from 2021 until 2024 Varzaqan helicopter crash, his death in a helicopter crash in 2024. Capital Punishment In Uganda
Capital punishment is a legal penalty in Uganda. The death penalty was likely last carried out in 1999, although some sources say the last execution in Uganda took place in 2005. Regardless, Uganda is interchangeably considered a retentionist state with regard to capital punishment, due to absence of "an established practice or policy against carrying out executions," as well as a ''de facto'' abolitionist state due to the lack of any executions for over one decade. Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023 (Uganda)
The Anti-Homosexuality Act, 2023 is an act of the Parliament of Uganda that restricts freedom of speech on LGBT topics and introduces harsher penalties for certain types of homosexual acts. On 21 March 2023, the bill was read a third time, and was then sent to President Yoweri Museveni for assent. On 21 April 2023, Museveni returned it to Parliament, which passed it again with minor amendments on 2 May. On 26 May, Museveni signed it into law. The act prescribes life imprisonment for sex between two people of the same biological sex and the death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality". Namirembe is a hill in Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. It is also a common name given to girls in several Baganda clans. Namirembe comes from the Luganda word "mirembe" meaning ''peace''.
