Stephen Edwards (cricketer)
Stephen James Edwards (born 23 June 1951) is a former English cricketer. Edwards was a right-handed batsman who bowled both slow left-arm orthodox and left-arm medium pace. He was born in Highgate, Middlesex. Edwards made his debut for Buckinghamshire in the 1985 Minor Counties Championship against the Somerset Second XI. Edwards played Minor counties cricket for Buckinghamshire from 1985 to 1992, which included 33 Minor Counties Championship matches and 6 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches. In 1987, he made his List A debut against Somerset in the NatWest Trophy. He played 2 further List A matches for Buckinghamshire, the last coming against Sussex in the 1992 NatWest Trophy. He also played a single List A match for the combined Minor Counties cricket team in the 1988 Benson & Hedges Cup against Nottinghamshire. 1987 NatWest Trophy
The 1987 NatWest Trophy was the 7th NatWest Trophy. It was an English limited overs county cricket tournament which was held between 24 June and 5 September 1987. The tournament was won by Nottinghamshire who defeated Northamptonshire by 3 wickets in the final at Lord's. In cricket, a player's bowling average is the number of runs they have conceded per wicket taken. The lower the bowling average is, the better the bowler is performing. It is one of a number of statistics used to compare bowlers, commonly used alongside the economy rate and the strike rate to judge the overall performance of a bowler. When a bowler has taken only a small number of wickets, their bowling average can be artificially high or low, and unstable, with further wickets taken or runs conceded resulting in large changes to their bowling average.
