Stephan Vuckovic
Stephan Vuckovic (born 22 June 1972 in Reutlingen) is an athlete from Germany, who competes in triathlon. Vuckovic competed at the first Olympic triathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics. He won the silver medal with a total time of 1:48:37.58. His split times were 18:35.59 for the swim, 0:58:52.10 for the cycling, and 0:31:09.89 for the run. Vuckovic began competing in International Triathlon Union races before competing in World Triathlon Corporation races. Beginning in 2005 he competed in several long distance triathlons, finishing on podium of the Ironman Canada 2005 (2nd place) and the Ironman Lanzarote (3rd) in 2007. The Ironman World Championship has been held annually in Hawaii since 1978, with an additional race in 1982. It is owned and organized by the World Triathlon Corporation. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines included. An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a swim, a bicycle ride and a marathon run completed in that order, a total of . It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Most Ironman events have a time limit of 16 or 17 hours to complete the race, course dependent, with the race typically starting at 7:00am. The mandatory cut off time to complete the swim is 2 hours 20 minutes. The mandatory bike cut off time for when an athlete must have completed their swim, transition and bike varies generally between 10 hours and 10 hours 30 minutes from when an athlete began their swim. The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) is a sports event promotion company owned by conglomerate Advance Publications, that produces the Ironman Triathlon, Ironman 70.3, the 5150 series of triathlon races, and other sports events. History In December, 1989, Dr. James P. Gills, with the help of Lew Friedland and David Yates, acquired and purchased the Hawaii Triathlon Corporation, owner of the Ironman Brand, for $3 million from Valerie Silk.
