''Steneurytion antipodum'' is a species of centipede in the Geophilidae family. It was described in 1891 by British zoologist Reginald Innes Pocock. This species can reach 38 mm in length and has 37 to 41 pairs of legs, usually 39 pairs in each sex. Distribution The species occurs in New Zealand. Reginald Innes Pocock
Reginald Innes Pocock, (4 March 1863 – 9 August 1947) was a British zoologist. Pocock was born in Clifton, Bristol, the fourth son of Rev. Nicholas Pocock and Edith Prichard. He began showing interest in natural history at St. Edward's School, Oxford. He received tutoring in zoology from Sir Edward Poulton, and was allowed to explore comparative anatomy at the Oxford Museum. He studied biology and geology at University College, Bristol, under Conwy Lloyd Morgan and William Johnson Sollas. In 1885, he became an assistant at the Natural History Museum, and worked in the section of entomology for a year. He was put in charge of the collections of Arachnida and Myriapoda. Geophilidae
Geophilidae is a family of soil centipedes in the superfamily Geophiloidea and the order Geophilomorpha. In 2014, a phylogenetic analysis based on morphological and molecular data found this family to be polyphyletic. To avoid this polyphyly, authorities dismissed the families Aphilodontidae, Dignathodontidae, Linotaeniidae, and Macronicophilidae, which are now deemed to be junior synonyms for Geophilidae. Authorities also moved some genera from Geophilidae to form the family Zelanophildae in order to avoid the polyphyly of the family Geophilidae. Maungatua
Maungatua, known also as Mauka Atua is a prominent ridge in the Taieri Plains in Otago, New Zealand. It rises above the floodplain of the Taieri River, directly to the west of Dunedin's airport at Momona. ''Steneurytion'' is a genus of centipedes in the family (biology), family Geophilidae. This genus was first described by Austrian myriapodology, myriapodologist Carl Attems in 1909.
