Stella Mendonça
Stella Mendonça (born 10 August 1970) is a Mozambican operatic soprano specializing in the bel canto repertoire. In 2002 Mendonça collaborated in adapting Georges Bizet's opera Carmen for African audiences and then performed it in Mozambique. Career Born in Nampula, Mozambique, Mendonça received her vocal education at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon in Lyon, France, on a full scholarship and subsequently studied with Dennis Hall, Ernst Haefliger, Magda Olivero. She studied Lieder with Verena Schwermer and Peter Berne. Mendonça made her debut in the title role of Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow, although most of her early roles were in various oratorios such as Giovanni Pergolesi’s ''Stabat Mater'', Gioachino Rossini’s '' Petite messe solennelle'', and Gabriel Fauré’s ''Requiem''. The Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Lyon (; "Lyon National Superior Conservatory of Dance and Music"; CNSMDL), often simply the Conservatoire de Lyon, is a conservatory for the study of music and dance, located in Lyon, France. Gioachino Antonio Rossini (29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868) was an Italian composer of the late Classical period (music), Classical and early Romantic music, Romantic eras. Henning Mankell
Henning Georg Mankell (; 3 February 1948 – 5 October 2015) was a Swedish crime writer, children's author, and dramatist, best known for a series of mystery novels starring his most noted creation, Inspector Kurt Wallander. He also wrote a number of plays and screenplays for television. He was a left-wing social critic and activist. In his books and plays he constantly highlighted social inequality issues and injustices in Sweden and abroad. In 2010, Mankell was on board one of the ships in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla that was boarded by Israeli commandos. He was below deck on the MV Mavi Marmara when nine civilians were killed in international waters. António Emílio Leite Couto, better known as Mia Couto (born 5 July 1955), is a Mozambican writer. He won the Camões Prize in 2013, the most important literary award in the Portuguese language, and the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 2014.
