Hallar-Steinn
Hallar-Steinn (Old Norse: ; Modern Icelandic: ) was an Icelandic poet active around the year 1200. He is best known for the poem ''Rekstefja'', preserved in Bergsbók and ''Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar en mesta''. A few other disjoint verses by him are also known, quoted in ''Skáldskaparmál'', ''Laufás-Edda'' and the Third Grammatical Treatise. ''Rekstefja'' (O.N.: ; M.I.: ) traces the career of King Óláfr Tryggvason from his upbringing in Russia to his fall at Svöldr. It consists of 35 ''dróttkvætt'' verses. The poem's name derives from its refrain (Old Norse ''stef'') which consists of three lines divided between three contiguous verses. The poem proclaims itself to be the third ''drápa'' on Óláfr Tryggvason, referring to two earlier ones by Hallfreðr vandræðaskáld and the unknown Bjarni. The poem is technically accomplished and makes use of complex combinations of kennings. It is influenced by the works of Arnórr jarlaskáld and Einarr Skúlason and has many similari ...

Steinn Steinarr
Steinn Steinarr (born Aðalsteinn Kristmundsson, 13 October 1908 – 25 May 1958) was an Icelandic poet. He is one of Iceland's major poets and wrote both modernist and traditional poems. Early life Steinn Steinarr was nicknamed Alli (a standard nickname for Aðalsteinn). His farm laborer parents in northwest Iceland (sveitabæ) were so poor that the local authorities divided up the family. The three oldest children were shipped off for adoption, during which relocation the oldest died. The rest of the family was escorted off to a west coast farm. Before long Alli was the only family member left on the farm, where he languished in misery. In all probability the world would never have heard from him again had it not been for an elderly governess three years later. Her name was Kristin Tómasdóttir. She discovered the boy by accident and was so shocked to witness the abuse he had suffered that she adopted him on the spot. Steinn wasn't an ordinary child, but a rebellious, undisc ...

Völu-Steinn
Völu-Steinn is an Icelandic skald of the mid-10th century. Two half-stanzas have come down to us, both preserved in Snorri Sturluson's ''Skáldskaparmál'' (3, 57). As ''Landnámabók'' (S 142) mentions Völu-Steinn's great sorrow at the death of his son Ögmundr, it is generally admitted that these verse belong to a poem in memory of his son. Sigurður Nordal suggested Völu-Steinn as a possible author of ''Völuspá ''Völuspá'' (also ''Vǫluspá'', ''Vǫlospá'', or ''Vǫluspǫ́''; Old Norse: 'Prophecy of the völva, a seeress') is the best known poem of the ''Poetic Edda''.
