Steinfurt I – Borken I is an electoral constituency (German language, German: ''Wahlkreis'') represented in the Bundestag. It elects one member via first-past-the-post voting. Under the current constituency numbering system, it is designated as constituency 123. It is located in northern North Rhine-Westphalia, comprising the western part of Steinfurt (district), Steinfurt district and the eastern part of Borken (district), Borken district. Steinfurt I – Borken I was created for the 2002 German federal election, 2002 federal election. Since 2002, it has been represented by Jens Spahn of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany, Christian Democratic Union (CDU). Geography Steinfurt I – Borken I is located in northern North Rhine-Westphalia. Borken (district)
Borken is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the northwestern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany in the Münster region. Neighboring districts are Steinfurt, Coesfeld, Recklinghausen, Wesel, Cleves, Bentheim in the Lower Saxony and the Dutch provinces Gelderland and Overijssel. The two biggest cities are Bocholt and Gronau. History During the era of the Holy Roman Empire the area was subordinate to the Prince-Bishopric of Münster for centuries. Mario Mieruch (born 16 August 1975) is a German politician, elected to the Bundestag in September 2017 as a member of Alternative for Germany. Ingrid Arndt-Brauer (born 20 March 1961) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who served as a member of the Bundestag from 1999 until 2021. Steinfurt (; ) is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is the capital of the district of Steinfurt. From –1806, it was the capital of the County of Steinfurt. Ochtrup () is a town in the Steinfurt (district), district of Steinfurt, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated approximately 20 km west of Rheine and 20 km east of Enschede. History An early mention of the town was „Ohtepe“ (the eastern Epe, North Rhine-Westphalia, Epe or Ostepe) in the year 1143. A Christian church was established there in 1203. Between November 25 and November 30, 2005, the town was often off the German power grid, and was the topic of national news. The cause was a heavy snow storm with very wet snow.
