Stefano Cavedagna
Stefano Cavedagna (born 9 December 1989) is an Italian politician of Brothers of Italy who was elected member of the European Parliament in 2024. Early life and career As a high school student, Cavedagna wrote an article critical of mass killings under communist regimes in the school newspaper, which was censored by the school's principal. After an article was written about the incident in '' il Resto del Carlino'', he was approached by Galeazzo Bignami and joined the National Alliance's youth wing Youth Action. Cavadegna left Youth Action in 2008, and joined The People of Freedom. At the age of 19 he was elected city councilor of San Lazzaro di Savena, and became group leader of The People of Freedom in the council at the age of 20. He was appointed regional coordinator of Young Italy in Bologna in 2011, and in 2014 became regional coordinator of Young Italy in Emilia-Romagna. The Young Italy (, GI) was the youth wing of The People of Freedom (PdL), a political party in Italy. History Young Italy was founded on 9 April 2009 from the merger of "Forza Italia – Young People for Freedom" (the youth wing of Forza Italia) and Youth Action (Italy), Youth Action (youth wing of the National Alliance (Italy), National Alliance). 2021 Bologna Municipal Election
The municipal elections in Bologna took place on 3 and 4 October 2021. The incumbent Mayor of Bologna was Virginio Merola of Democratic Party, who won the 2016 Bologna municipal election. The centre-left candidate Matteo Lepore won in a landslide with 62% of votes, becoming the most voted mayor since the introduction of direct elections in 1995. Electoral system The voting system is used for all mayoral elections in Italy, in the cities with a population higher than 15,000 inhabitants. Under this system, voters express a direct choice for the mayor or an indirect choice voting for the party of the candidate's coalition.
