Steady Growth (April 4, 1976 – September 20, 1995) was a Canadian Thoroughbred Champion racehorse. Background Bred and raced by Bud Willmot's Kinghaven Farms, Steady Growth was out of the mare Crelita, a daughter of Crepello, winner of the 1957 Epsom Derby and 2,000 Guineas Stakes and the Leading sire in Great Britain and Ireland in 1969 and the Leading broodmare sire in Great Britain & Ireland in 1974. Steady Growth's sire was Briartic, who also sired the 1982 Queen's Plate winner, Son of Briartic. Nearctic (horse)
Nearctic (February 11, 1954 – 27 July 1973) was a Canadian-bred Hall of Fame Thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bred by E. P. Taylor, he was out of the Irish mare Lady Angela, a daughter of the British Champion sire Hyperion. He was sired by the extremely important stallion Nearco. Racing career Conditioned for racing by future Canadian Hall of Fame trainer "Pete" McCann, Nearctic had his most successful season on the track at age four, when he won nine races and was voted Canadian Horse of the Year. Stud record Retired to stand at stud at Windfields Farm in Oshawa, Ontario. In 1967 he was syndicated for $1,050,000(US) and was moved to stand at Allaire du Pont's Woodstock Farm at Chesapeake City, Maryland. Haskell Invitational Handicap
The Haskell Stakes is a Grade I American Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds run over a distance of miles on the dirt held annually in July at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey. The event is a signature event at Monmouth Park during their summer racing season and a major race for three-year-olds in between the U.S. Triple Crown series and the Breeders' Cup. Monmouth Park Racetrack
Monmouth Park Racetrack is an American race track for thoroughbred horse racing in Oceanport, New Jersey, United States. It is owned by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority and is operated under a five-year lease as a partnership with Darby Development, LLC. Monmouth Park's marquee event is the Haskell Invitational, named after Amory L. Haskell. The Haskell was first run in 1968 as a handicap, but was made into an Invitational Handicap in 1981. Arlington Park
Arlington International Racecourse (formerly Arlington Park, the name was Arlington Park Jockey Club from as soon as 1948 up to 1955) was a horse race track in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Horse racing in the Chicago region had been a popular sport since the early days of the city in the 1830s, and at one time Chicago had more horse racing tracks (six) than any other major metropolitan area. Arlington International was the site of the first thoroughbred race with a million- dollar purse in 1981. It was located near the Illinois Route 53 expressway. Son of Briartic (1979–2003) was a Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred by Canada's most prominent horseman, E. P. Taylor, he was out of the mare Tabola, a daughter of U.S. Racing Hall of Fame inductee Round Table. His sire was the multiple stakes winner Briartic, a son of Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee Nearctic, who also sired Northern Dancer. Son of Briartic was purchased by Dave Kapchinsky of Edmonton, Alberta, who was voted the 1981 Sovereign Award for Outstanding Owner in Canadian racing. Kapchinsky raced the colt under the banner of his Paddockhurst Stable with trainer Jerry Lavigne responsible for his race conditioning. Leading Sire In Great Britain And Ireland
The title of champion, or leading, sire of racehorses in Great Britain and Ireland is awarded to the stallion whose offspring have won the most prize money in Britain and Ireland during the flat racing season. The current champion is Frankel, who replaced his sire Galileo as the leading sire in 2021 after Galileo had won the title twelve times. Unlike the similar title for leading sire in North America, the stallion in question does not need to have resided in Great Britain or Ireland during his stud career, although the vast majority have done so. Northern Dancer is the most notable example of a North American-based stallion who won this title. The Northern Dancer sire line has dominated the list for the last several decades, mostly through his son Sadler's Wells (14 titles) and grandson Galileo.
