''State Property'' is the soundtrack to ''State Property (film), the 2002 film of the sane name'', as well as the debut studio album by State Property (group), the rap group of the sane name. Selling 51,500 copies in its first week, the album was a success, making it to 14 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200, 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and 2 on the Top Soundtracks, and spawned one single "Roc the Mic", which was a minor hit, making it to 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The remix to "Roc The Mic" features St. Louis rappers Nelly & Murphy Lee of the St. Lunatics and was included on rapper Nelly's 2002 album, "Nellyville" as a radio-only single. The album features a sole guest appearance by R&B singer Rell (singer), Rell, who played 'Butter' in the film. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip-hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Luminate. The chart debuted as Hot R&B LPs in the issue dated January 30, 1965, in an effort by the magazine to further expand into the field of rhythm and blues music. It then went through several name changes, being known as Soul LPs in the 1970s and Top Black Albums in the 1980s, before returning to the R&B identification in 1990 and affixing a hip hop designation in 1999 to reflect the latter's growing sales and relationship to R&B during the decade. From 1965 through 2009, the chart was compiled based on reported sales at a core panel of stores with a "higher-than-average volume" of R&B and/or hip-hop album sales to monitor buying trends of the African-American community. Rick Rock
Ricardo Thomas, also known as Rick Rock, is an American record producer originally from Montgomery, Alabama and based in Fairfield, California. He is a founding member of the former rap group Cosmic Slop Shop and the Federation with fellow rapper Doonie Baby, and is regarded as a pioneer of the hip-hop subgenre Hyphy. Late 1990s Rick Rock began to make a name for himself in 1996 when well known Vallejo Producer Mike Mosley invited him to come to the studio to meet E-40. E-40 had originally planned on using a beat produced by Mike Mosley, however due to Mosley's tardiness, Rick Rock used that time as an opportunity to showcase his talents. Kenneth Johnson (born October 17, 1977), better known by his stage name Omillio Sparks, is an American rapper and actor from West Philadelphia. He is best known for his uncredited guest appearance on Jay-Z's 2000 single " I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me)," which peaked at number 11 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. He rose to fame as one-half of the Philadelphia-based hip hop duo Young Gunz, which he formed with rapper Neef Buck in 2001. Leslie Edward Pridgen (born August 6, 1978), better known by his stage name Freeway, is an American rapper. Originally hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he first gained recognition after appearing on Jay-Z's fifth album, '' The Dynasty: Roc La Familia'' in 2000. The following year, he became a member of the Philadelphia-based hip-hop collective State Property, which were signed to Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings. Gerrell Gaddis (born July 22, 1976), better known by his stage name Rell, is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Bowman, South Carolina. He was the first male R&B singer to sign to New York City-based label Roc-A-Fella Records, where he recorded with artists such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Consequence, and Young Gunz.
