The State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart (, or ABK Stuttgart) is a public fine art university in Stuttgart, Germany. It was founded in 1761 and has been located on the Weissenhof since 1946. Its campus consists of three buildings: the Altbau, Neubau 1 or "Architects' Building", and Neubau 2. History The Academy is a fine art university in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg which formed in 1941 through the merging of the former Academy of Fine Arts (''Württembergische Akademie der bildenden Künste'') with the former School of Applied Arts (''Württembergische Staatliche Kunstgewerbeschule'') to make the ''Staatliche Akademie der bildenden Künste Stuttgart''. This was reconstituted under the same name in 1946 by Theodor Heuss. Württemberg-Baden
Württemberg-Baden was a state of the Federal Republic of Germany. It was created in 1945 by the United States occupation forces, after the previous states of Baden and Württemberg had been split up between the US and French occupation zones. Its capital was Stuttgart. In 1952, Württemberg-Baden merged with Württemberg-Hohenzollern and Baden into the present state of Baden-Württemberg. History Württemberg-Baden consisted of the northern halves of the former states of Württemberg and Baden. Sam Durant
Sam Durant (born 1961, in Seattle) is a multimedia artist whose works engage social, political, and cultural issues. Often referencing American history, his work explores culture and politics, engaging subjects such as the civil rights movement, southern rock music, and modernism. Education Durant received a BFA in sculpture in 1986 from the Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA from California Institute of the Arts. From 2000–2022, Durant taught art at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. Johann Heinrich Von Dannecker
Johann Heinrich von Dannecker (October 16, 1758 in StuttgartDecember 8, 1841 in Stuttgart) was a German sculptor and director of an art school. Biography He was the third of five children of Georg Dannecker (1718–1786), a coachman of the nobleman Charles Alexander, Duke of Württemberg. In 1764, the family moved to Ludwigsburg (Baden-Württemberg). He was entered in the military school at the age of thirteen, but from 1772 to 1780 he was educated as a sculptor, together with Philipp Jakob Scheffauer. Initially, he studied under Adam Bauer and, starting in 1775, at the military academy at Stuttgart. In his eighteenth year he carried off the prize at the Concours with his model of Milo of Crotona. Johann Wilhelm Beyer
Johann Wilhelm Beyer (27 December 1725 in Gotha, † 23 March 1796 in Hietzing), a German sculptor, porcelain artist, painter and garden designer. Beyer has the largest share in the design of the gardens and statues of Schönbrunn Palace, which is regarded as his masterpiece. Youth and studies Beyer was trained as a garden-engineer early on by his father Johann Nicholas Beyer, who was a gardener in the service of Charles Eugene, Duke of Württemberg. Between 1748 and 1751, Beyer traveled to Paris where he studied architecture and painting. Heinrich Altherr (11 April 1878, in Basel – 27 April 1947, in Zürich) was a Swiss painter. He is best known for his murals in churches and various public buildings. Biography His father, Alfred, was a pastor. He had his first art lessons from a family friend, the sculptor Carl Burckhardt (sculptor), Carl Burckhardt. Later, he studied with Fritz Schider and, after failing the entrance exam for the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, with Heinrich Knirr at his private school there. Herbert Hirche (20 May 1910 in Görlitz – 28 January 2002 in Heidelberg) was a German architect and furniture and product designer. Herbert Hirche studied from 1930 to 1933 at the Bauhaus in Dessau and Berlin.. Retrieved 29 October 2014 His teachers included, Wassily Kandinsky and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
