''Starward Rogue'' is a bullet hell roguelike video game from Arcen Games. The game takes place in the same universe as many of Arcen's other games, such as '' AI War'' and '' Stars Beyond Reach''. The player controls a mech housing a severed head of an alien hydra (the main character "Hydral" from '' The Last Federation''), shooting through the levels of a procedurally generated prison tower lodged in the surface of a star. Arcen Games
Arcen Games is a small video game company founded in 2009 by Chris McElligott Park. The company launched their first product, ''AI War: Fleet Command'', in mid 2009 for Windows PCs. The company became one of the early notable examples of heavy procedural generation in almost all their games. They are also known for taking unusual gameplay ideas in an idiosyncratic range of genres, and exploring to the extreme ends of each idea. Most of Arcen's titles include some form of overarching goals with a lot of freedom as to how the player goes about reaching said goals. The company founder has a stated aversion to being stuck into any one genre. ''The Last Federation'' is an indie strategy video game developed by Arcen Games, LLC, released on Microsoft Windows on April 18, 2014. Gameplay The goal of ''The Last Federation'' is to unite various alien species in a single federation, in order to prevent future wars, genocides, or other disasters. The player-character is the last survivor of a race of alien hydras (the same character "Hydral" would later show up in ''Starward Rogue''), who flies around in a single spaceship going between planets and events in space, occasionally getting into a dogfight with other ships.
