Starstream Records was the record label for Starstream Communications Group, Inc., a Houston, Texas based radio promotions company (1980–1990). It was formed as the record label supporting a national talent search, The Big Music America Contest, developed by Kenneth Kramer with support from Harold Stream, a Louisiana businessman and Dr. Donald Altfeld, a songwriter and music producer best known for co-writing " The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena)" by Jan and Dean and co-producing "It Never Rains In Southern California" by Albert Hammond. Originally the label was known as Nova Records and the first release was Nova Records MS7801 - The Best of Mississippi. Later, when the contest changed from the Big Music America Contest to the Miller High Life Rock To Riches Talent Search, the operating company was changed from Big Music America to Starstream Communications Group. The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena)
"The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena)" is a song written by Don Altfeld, Jan Berry and Roger Christian, and recorded by 1960s American pop singers, Jan and Dean. Singer/songwriter P.F. Sloan sings the falsetto part usually sung by Dean Torrence, while Dean sings one of the backup parts. This was the first time P.F. sang the falsetto on a single, although P.F. had already sung some falsetto on the last album Dead Man’s Curve/The New Girl In School. Jan & Dean reworked the lyrics from "The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena)" in 1967, renaming the track "Tijuana" and releasing it as a single that same year. The lyrics now contained thinly-veiled references to marijuana use. "Tijuana" was to be included on the act's final album ''Carnival of Sound,'' completed in 1969, but the LP went unreleased for several decades. Jan And Dean
Jan and Dean was an American rock duo consisting of William Jan Berry (April 3, 1941 – March 26, 2004) and Dean Ormsby Torrence (born March 10, 1940). In the early 1960s, they were pioneers of the California Sound and vocal surf music styles popularized by the Beach Boys. Among their most successful songs was 1963's " Surf City", the first surf song ever to reach the #1 spot. Their other charting top 10 singles were " Drag City" (1963), "Dead Man's Curve" (1964; inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2008), and "The Little Old Lady from Pasadena" (1964). Twisted Sister
Twisted Sister was an American heavy metal band originally from Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, and later based on Long Island, New York. Jon Butcher
Jon Butcher (born May 5, 1955) is an American Rock music, rock, blues songwriter, guitarist and freelance multimedia producer. Early life Jon A. Toombs, is the elder son of Joan Butts and John A Toombs Sr. In 1967, Jon's stepfather William Butcher moved the family from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Clear Air Force Base, Clear, Alaska. In 1969 the family moved back to Pennsylvania. Jon and his younger brother Brian completed secondary education at Conestoga High School. Jon studied Broadcast Journalism at Grahm Junior College in Boston, Massachusetts. The Replacements (band)
The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979. Initially a hardcore punk band, they are one of the main pioneers of alternative rock. The band was composed of the guitarist and vocalist Paul Westerberg, guitarist Bob Stinson, bass guitarist Tommy Stinson and drummer Chris Mars for most of its existence.
