Starokostiantyniv Air Base
Starokostiantyniv is an air base of the Ukrainian Air Force located near Starokostiantyniv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine. The base is home to the 7th Tactical Aviation Brigade "Petro Franko" flying Sukhoi Su-24M, Sukhoi Su-24MR, and Aero L-39C Albatros aircraft. History In the early 1990s the airbase became home to the 7th Bomber Aviation Regiment flying Sukhoi Su-24M aircraft. During the Cold War the 85th Fighter Aviation Regiment was also located at the base. On February 13, 1992, shortly after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, pilots from this airbase took six Su-24 airplanes to Russia. To avoid detection by the air defense systems of Ukraine, they flew to Russia through Belarus. After the Regiment became a Ukrainian formation it was subordinate to the 35th Aviation Group. Starokostiantyniv
Starokostiantyniv (, ; or ; ) is a city in Khmelnytskyi Raion, Khmelnytskyi Oblast (province) of western Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Starokostiantyniv urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: In 2025, about 30,000 people live there. History Starokostiantyniv was founded in the 16th century when Konstanty Ostrogski built a fortress at the village of Kolishchentsi. The surviving Starokostiantyniv Castle was constructed by his son between 1561 and 1571. The village grew into a town which became known as "Old Constantine's Town" (''Kostiantyniv Staryi'') to prevent confusion with "New Constantine's Town" in the vicinity. The Aero L-39 Albatros is a high-performance jet trainer designed and produced by Aero Vodochody in the Czech Republic. In addition to performing basic and advanced pilot training, it has also flown combat missions in a light-attack role. Despite its manufacturing origin in the Warsaw Pact, the L-39 never received a NATO reporting name. The L-39 Albatros was designed during the 1960s as a successor to the Aero L-29 Delfín, an early jet-powered principal training aircraft. The 144th Fighter Wing (144 FW) is a unit of the California Air National Guard, stationed at Fresno Air National Guard Base, California. As part of the Air Reserve Component of the United States Air Force, the wing is operationally gained by the Air Combat Command. Mission The 144th Fighter Wing's primary federal mission under Title 10 USC is to provide air defense protection for California and the United States from the Mexican border to Oregon utilizing the F-15 Eagle jet fighter aircraft. The 48th Fighter Wing (48 FW) is part of the United States Air Force's Third Air Force, assigned to Headquarters Air Command Europe and United States Air Forces in Europe ( USAFE). It is based at RAF Lakenheath, England. The 48 FW is the only F-15 wing based in Europe which hosts two F-15E Strike Eagle squadrons. The wing also hosts two F-35A Lightning II squadrons.
